Last night I acquired nasty viruses on my computer and spent a few hours going through the step by step removal process on your Malware Removal Guide. I got all the way to part where you download and run Super AntiSpyware. I ran the scan, did the quarantine and removal, the repair broken network connection--and then rebooted, as it asked me to do.

Upon rebooting, I first got an error message that said "CPU Over Temperture error!", then another message that said "Error loading operating system". I turned it off for the night and this morning I just get the black screen with the "Error loading operating system" message. What happened?

(I'm typing this from another computer)

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Sorry to hear of this problem. I'm not sure exactly what happened to your PC. What malware was it that was actually causing you problems. Also what Windows version are you running and do you have your bootable CD for your Windows version. If this problem is not a physical problem (like a bad hard disk or bad CPU due to over heating) then a Windows repair may work. It does sound more like a hardware issue though.

Is your hard disk recognized in the BIOS? Is it configured properly?

I'm running Windows XP and I do have the XP installation CD. If I try to reinstall XP will it delete all my saved files and programs?

Not exactly sure what has plagued my system but here are some of the virus names: TrojanDownloader.xs, sitehistory hijacker, 2020 Search, Windows Sarch Bar hijacker, TX4 Browser Ad and many more.

In BIOS how do I tell if my hard disk is configured properly? This is what I get, which doesn't sound good:

Primary IDE Master - not detected
Primary IDE Slave - not detected
Secondary IDE Master - not detected
Secondary IDE slave - not detected

    Thanks for your help.

Well this is definitely not going to work. If you do not have any hard disks being detected, you obviously will not be able to find your Operating System. You need to determine why you are not detecting your hard disks. Normally it should be auto detected. You would be better off working this particular problem in the hardware forum as this is not due to malware. It may be purely coincedental that it happen after doing a scan with SUPERAntispyware (SAS). No matter what SAS could have deleted (even if it erased your whole harddisk - which it would not do) , it would not make your hard disk undetected. Check your cables to the hard disk and make sure the are all plugged in properly. Check both ends of the cables. Do you really use an IDE drive or is it a SATA drive? All of these questions are things you should supply in a message in the Hardware Forum.
