I've been at this for hours. Please help if you can.
My computer spontaniously rebooted on its own today, ran PestPatrol (amoung other programs) and found a trojan, deleted it, for the life of me can't remember the name and log is gone. I remember the date from the info was Aug. 2006 though.
On every boot up I get an error message (Error loading winmxw32.dll. The system cannot find the file specified.)
So...........I know something is still wrong.
I've been working on your tutorial for hours.
    My OS is WinMe.
Attached is anything I was able to do. I couldnt do anything on safemode because somehow my mouse was disabled. (maybe usb, its wireless)
I managed to use Counterspy, it found diarrhea all over!
I couldn't use Bitdefender or Panda Scan at all. One wouldn't load even after troubleshooting and the other had an active X problem that I couldn't figure out.
I had HIjackThis from a problem before but renamed it like was told.

Let me know if there's any more info you would need and thanks for your help in advance.

That file is part of the Winlogonhook infection that you had. CounterSpy also found and removed some other components that were in the registry.

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winmxw32] rundll32 winmxw32.dll,run

After clicking Fix, exit HJT and reboot your PC.:

Now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Some of your problems using the online scanners may have been due to not updating this as requested in the READ ME.

Now you need to go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall the below as requested in step 0 of the READ ME:
    Viewpoint Manager (Remove Only)
    Viewpoint Media Player

While in Add/Remove Programs also uninstall the below old version of Sun Java that is no longer needed since we just updated.
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 1

Make sure you tell me how things are working now.

Thanks, I had the feeling was suppose to remove that but still wanted someone to tell me to.
    The error message is removed.
Something that bothers me though is that it still takes an abnormally long time for system to boot up. (all those running program icons in bottom right toolbar) Could this just be the added Counterspy slowing it down?

I had just done a SunJava update, thought was okay. Sorry about that.
I installed the newest 'update 8' for SunJava but I still am unable to do any of the online scans. Same issues as before.

I'm pretty sure everything is clean anyways.
Attached is new hijackthis log if that helps.
Is there anything else besides the normal programs to check?

You can uninstall CounterSpy now to help speed things up. Since you have PestPatrol as you antispyware tool, you do not want another realtime blocker installed.

You can also have HJT fix the below. You don't need to run this at startup:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot

Your log is clean. If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to go back to step 1 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points. Then reboot and enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

After that, you should work thru the below link:
