Hello, I have a Gateway 3250S, 160GB HD, 512MB MEM, with a pre-installed MS XP Home Edition with SP2. It came with NAV and I later Purchased NIS2005. Once expired I tried to remove with Norton Removal Tool and Installed AVG-anti virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, & Spybot S&D. Ever since I removed Norton I have had a slew of problems. Most recently, and maybe unrelated, is that my computer repeatedly restarts itself no matter what I am doing. This is the info I have been able to gather between each shut down:
    Error Signature: BCCode 1000008e, BCP1: C000005, BCP2:AA4A080E, BCP3: A9F20A20, BCP4:00000000, OSVer: 5_1_2600, SP2_0, Product 768.1

    Affected files:
    C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS\Temp\WER24cc.dir00\Mini011607-05dmp
    C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS\Temp\WER24cc.dir00\sysdata.xml.

When I click send report, MS error reporting tells me the problem is with a video device driver; Technical Info: Error Message: Stop 0x000000EA, THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER (Q293078). This can be accessed through Microsoft Support Knowledge base web page. It provides options to update driver through MS Update or to manually decrease hardware acceleration for your video adapter. I tried both but my computer restarts before updates are complete and decreasing hardware acceleration did nothing. A gateway tech sent me some instructions to delete the Minidump files and reset the Pagefile.sys file. I did that still have the issue. After several restarts, my computer will stay on for several minutes and I can access the internet and do limited applications but I can't run any scans or download anything. I can get into “safe mode with networking” but cannot access the Internet in safe mode. I have tried troubleshooting through startup, disabling certain programs not MS, AVG, or Zone Alarm related, but nothing. I have checked all my drivers through Device Manager but they all say drivers are working properly. I have read in this forum and others that it may be RAM related and would like to run MemTest 3.5 but I can't download. My fan appears to be working fine and don't feel any overheating. I have also heard that it may be a power supply issue. I have tried different outlets and surge protectors but hasn't helped. I would also like to run the RUN & READ ME FIRST sticky but again, I get kicked off in normal mode and don't have Internet access in safe mode with networking. The restarts have gotten more frequent lately occurring ~1-3 minutes after reboot. Has anyone figured out how to resolve this issue and if so how? If I get Internet access in safe mode, is it safe to download? Is it ok to delete the referenced affected files from the error message? I have a recovery cd I made after setting up my computer but don’t have the Windows XP installation CD (pre-installed). If anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it. Specific directions would be very helpful also as my knowledge with computers is limited. I am posting this thread from another computer, as I can’t use my own. Short of taking my sledgehammer to my computer, I don't know what else to do. I hope this information is useful and I apologize for the long post. Thanks!

Ok, I may have created another problem. I Found a thread with similar issue on an MG forum and with much regret now, I tried following them prior to receiving a reply from MG:
    Reinstall Video Driver:
    1. Right-click ‘My Computer’
    2. Select ‘Manage’
    3. On the ‘Computer Management’ window, click ‘Device Maneger’
    4. on the hardware list to the right, expand ‘Display Adapters’
    5. For Each item listed, right-click, and select ‘Unistall’. Did so and the only thing expanded was—Intel 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family Video Driver. I should have opened and checked driver Details Tab for more info but I didn't because it didn't say to. MY BAD.
    6. Reboot Machine - When widows starts up, it should reinstall drivers for your video card. If none of the above helps, try updating drivers by following these steps above, but clicking ‘Update Divers’ instead of ‘Uninstall’ in step 5.

·Up restart in Normal Mode, Hardware Wizard window pops up – Select to also search Windows Update web page -- Install software automatically searches for Video Control (VGA Compatible) -- Cannot Install Hardware, Cannot find necessary hardware for your computer -- Click Back if you have installation hardware such as CD-ROM or you know location of Hardware. Then serious error message pops up again and computer restarts itself .
·Restarted in SAFE MODE with Networking: In Device Manager, I do not see ‘Display Adapters’ icon. I tried to scan for hardware changes, pops up Other Devices -> VGA Video Diver -> check driver details; not working property, asks to reinstall so I give it a shot.
·After clicking ‘reinstall’ the hardware wizard pops up and gives me the same message as before- need CD-ROM or File Location.
My computer came with pre-installed OS Windows XP Home Edition SP2. I created recovery CD’ after setup. After speaking with a Gateway Tech on the phone, he informed me the Recovery Consol is already installed and to press F11 upon restart but I don't feel confortable without help and he couldn't because warrenty expired.
I attempted to do System Recovery through Start -> All Programs ->System Recovery ->Applications & Drivers -> Drivers Installation -> Intel 915 G Chipset System 6.0.0.1014 04/2004. Restarted in Safe Mode and still did not reinstall Display Adapters’ Intel 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family Video Driver.
·I searched Gateway.com for downloads/updates for my computer (serial #). It recommended video drivers: IntelVideo 3971.exe – Intel(r)Express Chipset Family Video Driver Version 6.14.10.3671. BIOS version for updated didn’t match with BIOS version on my PC (checked though F1) - Required.

    Questions:
How do I reload video driver through Recovery Counsel(RS)/System Recover(SR) (F11) or with my Recovery CDs?
Do I have to do a complete reinstallation of my OS or can I do Selective Recovery for that specific video driver? I assume it resets my computer to factory settings.
If I end up doing a system restore, can I back up data in safe mode without my video driver?

Agian, sorry for the long post. Just trying to provid enough info. Am I in the right thread location or should I be in hardware? Thanks
