    Happy New Year, all!

I'd like a little help if possible, please?
Having been without a PC for a few months after my old emachines (running XP SP3) expired, I have just picked up a refurbed Dell tower running Windows 7 pro. All is well except when I try to rename a file, I use xnview to browse and manage an extensive collection of aircraft images and previously when organizing and renaming the images (stored on an external hard drive) simply right clicking on a thumbnail in xnview and selecting 'rename', allowed me to do just that. Now, everytime I try and rename a file the same way, all I get is a message window saying 'error renaming file'!
Cam anyone help, please? It's driving me to distraction!

    Best regards, Daz

While I have been using XnView for about 10 years, the program isn't as popular as it should be.
And 'error renaming file' doesn't give us much to go on. I honestly think your best option is the XnView forum.

Sorry I couldn't be of real help.
FWIW I just renamed an image on a flash drive from within XnView - no problem.
I'm jumping the gun... If you don't find a solution on the XnView forum, try using the portable version of XnView on the external HDD.
Either way, do let us know.

Truthfully, I don't use the rename option. (four Win 7 computers in use 3 Home Premium and one Pro).
I right click, select Properties and I can type what I want in the box at the top.
    I've never had a problem.

An update on the file re-naming issue...
I posted the same question on a couple of forums and someone suggested that I try running xnview as an administrator, so I right clicked on the programme icon, selected 'run as administrator' from the drop down menu and hey presto, problem solved! Or at the very least a satisfactory work around has been found!
Thanks to all who offered help, it was much appreciated...

    Thanks for the update.
To always run XnView as administrator...
    Right-click XnView's shortcut, click Properties > Shortcut > Advanced...
Check Run as administrator > OK > Apply > OK.
