error saying device cannot start (dvd burner)

This is making me crazy!

I got a dvd burner and I installed it onto my computer and it was working fine up until today. It doesn't show up under my computer as drive F like it used to. When I go to the device manager it has a little yellow exclamation mark next to the device name and it gives me an error message that says: This device cannot start (Code 10).

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling. It's not a problem with the cable. There are no updated drivers for it. I've updated Windows. I'm at a loss and I'm annoyed. Please help someone!

Computer:

Emachine C2280
Windows XP
80G hard drive
2200+ AMD Athlon Processor
256MB

 

go to your device manager and choose view:show hidden devices under non-plug and playd rivers see if you have a program called starforce, it is just one possible cause, starforce is drm on certan games that can cause drives to malfunction.

 

no starforce. however i have some progress. it's now functioning properly but now i can't get it to burn. are you familiar with dvdshrink at all?

Because it turns out that I'm dumb and all I had to do was reinstall Nero so that the burner function for DVDShrink would work.
