So i bought an antec p180 case, antec truepower 2.0 550W PSU and a SATAII Hard drive and brought them home (the rest of the parts are arriving later) I then installed the PSU into the case as well as the hard drive where i wanted it to go. Now, anyone familiar with a p180 case might remember that the case sides (front, left and right) with the large aluminium plates are covered in plastic wrapping, must be to protect against scratches etc. Anyway with the PSU and HD installed in the case i decided to remove the plastic wrapping from the case sides and in the process felt a static shock on my fingers touching the case side.

Does anyone know if ive just destroyed my psu and hard drive??? the psu was unplugged if that is of significance?

I would venture to guess that the only way to find out is to start it up. When I work on the inside of my rig I always keep one hand on metal (I am too cheap to buy the special wrist thing-a-ma-jigs. Good luck.:)

wont be able to try till i get the mobo, every thing else is sitting in their boxes:p
I also continually touch the case when working on it however i wasntactually working on the case, the case was just sitting there fully put together and i took the plastic wrap off the sides, whilst doing this i felt the static i dunno wether the discharge was from me to the case or from the case to me.

Soome ppl ive talked to say the case should pretty well absorb the static but i wasnt touching the case chassis, just the case side, also the antec p180's case sides are different they are a square of plastic with a square of aluminium within, dunno wether the square only is enough to disperse the charge?

Edit: wups, forgot to say thanks for ur reply comperroruter

I'm seriously doubtful, almost certain that you didn't cause any harm to a psu or a hdd.
Wouldn't want to try the same trick with motherboard or ram!!!

heh too right there hammer1 im trying to imagine what i wouldve felt like if i took the plastic off and felt a shock on the case after installing my more important parts (A8N SLI 2x 7800GT's and A64 4400+) i probably woulda dug myself a hole and cried.

Anyway wont know if i have caused any dmg till i do install everything fkn first a8n sli i got had a capacitor that wasnt even soldered on ffs, getting it replaced asap
