Essential Softwares

I just bought a new DVD burner, this one http://www.pioneer-eur.com/eur/product_detail.jsp?product_id=11165&taxonomy_id=43-92

I just need 2 know wat the essential softwares r, 4 burning, and backing up DVD's, and also converting video files on my PC 2 vob files

E.G CloneDVD, DVD shrink, etc.

 

For backing up personal DVD's I use CloneDVD from Slysoft. It works great however it does cost.

Like I tell everyone, "you pay for what you get". I test a lot of programs and when I find one that does what I want, I buy it. CloneDVD does exactly what I want, backs up my personal DVD's. It let's you choose just the movie or then entire disc.

 

How does it back it up? as a ISO image or what? I only used CloneCD before.

It copies the movie to a temporary location so you can burn it to another DVD disc to store for a backup. If you store a DVD on your computer as a file it will be about 4 GB per movie so copying and then burning to another disc for backups is what I recommend.

I dont know of any others that are free, but I'm sure someone else will be along to drop in some suggestions.

 

How would I go about making several .avi files in2 a vob file? which then can be burnt, and played on any DVD player?

 

You would need a program such as VSO DivxToDVD that will convert the files for you. Then you would use CloneDVD to read the convereted VOB files and burn as a DVD Movie.

The programs would do everything for you, but both of these program cost. If your like me it's worth it, my digital camcorder & camera has the video stuff and I convert all of them and burn them to DVD for storage and to watch.

I got vso DivxToDVD version 1.99.23.66, and i've got da latest version of Slysoft 3 in 1

DVD Fab Decrypter - http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm to rip to hard drive.
DVD Shrink - http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4020 to compress or reauthor the DVD to fit a 4.7 GB DVD (this is not necessary if you have a dual layer DVD burner) and save it as an .iso file.
ImgBurn - http://www.majorgeeks.com/ImgBurn_d4870.html to burn the .iso file to DVD if you wish.

AnyDVD - http://majorgeeks.com/AnyDVD_d4920.html with any app capable of copying a DVD disc.

 

how do u burn vob files on2 a DVD-r?
do u just drag and drop?

 

dvd shrink is my choice, with DVD Region+CSS Free handling encryption. you can rip to drive ,edit,or burn whole dvd. i use a dual layer drive but burn single because disks are cheaper. you may get dvd issues if you can use ritek brand.
