Hi, I have checked the other posts first.

I had to do a re install of XP. Several members here have been great in helping after a very bad infection. Finally had to do a reinstall.

My problem is there is nothing in the software package for the ethernet driver that I can find.

    I have a Dell Dimension 8300 series.

    Any suggestions would be welcome.

    Thanks!

Sorry. Link must have been incomplete.

Thanks, I had been so focused on the re install, I forgot to use logic and think.:)

After copying all the files over from the install for my computer, it still will not recognize the software or any of the drivers.

    Stuck.

Did you get a "Dell Resource" CD with the computer? I just went through this earlier this week and that's where I found mine. Had to run the autorun program on the CD to find and install the drivers for the card.

Yes, and after I extract and install, I can't get the wizard to reference the driver location or it can't find it on the disk.

For me, the drivers were extracted to and are located in:

    C:\DELL\drivers\R67150\WinXP\

But I have a 4600 and an Intel 10/100 Pro. What happens if you try from the Device Manager?

Same thing as before. I reference the location when I instruct to install from a specified location. Then it says it cannot find on the computer.

See if you can find the file: C:\DELL\drivers\R67150\WinXP\Setup.exe

and run it. If that doesn't work, I'm stumped.

I don't have that file from the install software, or from Dell's site.

How did you "extract" the files? And where did you "extract" them from?

From the dell resource CD, and for any drivers that were missing or updated from the Dell site.

Ok. Try looking on your Dell "ResourceCD" for the file: D:\AUTORCD.EXE. Substitute the correct drive letter that your system assigns to your CD drive for the "D". If you find that file run it. Be aware that it will probably come up in full screen mode. Is that the program that you used to "extract" and install the driver?

Please follow hrlow2's recommendation. We need to know what we are dealing with. Will be back in about an hour.

Sorry, it says updates are required for it to run. and I cannot get updates as there is no internet connection.

Can we be a little more definitive?:) What is telling you that "updates are required for it to run."? SIW or the AUTORCD.EXE?

Sorry, SIW is working, when I click on Network adapters, under property on the main screen, It just says "Office" (The "name" I gave the cpu, and then says Dell Computer Corporation Dimension 8300. Nothing under value.

Alright, I'm befudled. Some more questions:

    1. What is the installed XP sp? Press the "Windows" key and the "Pause/Break" key to retrieve this info then press the 'Cancel" button.
    2. AUTORCD.EXE is the file that gave you the "updates are required for it to run" message?
    3. What does device manager say you have for a "Network Adapter"? Probably just shows a yellow question mark, I suppose.

If AUTORCD.EXE is the program telling you it needs updates, can you give the exact message?

Sounds like you are trying to get what I requested from Control Panel.
SIW doesn't show properties or computer name.
Run SIW again. On the left side, scroll down to the Hardware section and click on Network Adapters.
SIW should show what card or adapter is installed on the larger screen on the right.

Sorry, it shows the same thing, and then I get the blue screen about a kernel stack error.

    I think I have had enough. :(

"I think I have had enough."Understandable, let us know when you're ready to tackle it again. No need to be sorry, you're the one having to do the work. But, when you reply it would be of great help if you could be more specific in your answers about what you did and what the results were. At this point we are only guessing until we can get some exact messages from the programs(files) that we ask you to run. <-- That holds true for me more than most folks here. We can't see exactly what you're seeing at your end so we have to rely on you to tell us.

Did you follow hrlow2's instructions about SIW? If so what was the result?

SIW is a stand alone program that does not install. So you would have to find "siw.exe" file with Explorer and then double click on it to run it, or browse for it from the: Start>Run command box.
