Ethernet Does not Exist?

Greets,

Ever since I got my modem I've never been able to use the Ethernet part of it, only the USB. Not only is it slow, without an Ethernet Adapter, I can not use programs like Hamachi and experience lag on certain programs. All in all, I want Ethernet. I recently purchased a new motherboard, a long with other hardware and I expected it to recognize my modem's ethernet now. Still nothing. The only thing I didn't change on my computer was the hard drive and I don't really see how that would change anything. I've tried to use Add/Remove Hardware, tried to reinstall it etc. etc. But I'm prepared to try again if I have to.

The major problem now is, my ISP has requested I return my old modem in exchange for this new one they sent me. Well lucky me, there's no USB, only ethernet and wireless. (I went and bought a wireless adapter too, but that has problems of its own)

If anyone has any idea why this is happening, please respond.

Nemonin, where do stand on this problem now? Resolved or not?

Are you using an onboard LAN/ethernet connector? If you have the correct drivers installed, perhaps your motherboard's built-in ethernet connector is defective; I'd agree this is not likely but it's possible. If you have an empty PCI slot, you might buy an ethernet/NIC (Network Interface Card) and install it, to replace your onboard LAN/ethernet connector.

 

Resolved. Thank you for your responses. I ended up reinstalling windows as a whole. I think it was worth it.
