Well, the Extra Virgin Olive oil is made from the first olives picked that season, and the best ones. Virgin Olive Oil is made from the second picking, and olive oil is made from the rest.

A really primo Olive Oil can sell for $300 to $500 a bottle.

Now that is a truly random post from Fred_G...:cool

I think you meant $3.00 to $5.00 a bottle?! Worth it for the taste.

    Love the stuff...healthy too!

Thinking it wasn't a typo LS. That seems a bit high (although, I wouldn't doubt they were out there), but I do know that it can run $150 a bottle. Crazy, huh?

oh, and fyi...If you are cooking with heat, a lot of times regular Olive oil is better...it doesn't burn or smoke as easily. :)

    Hi LauraR

Find such a high cost hard to believe. Given the costs involved for manufacturing, a case of good quality olive oil bottles would be around $300-$500. What brand charges that amount per bottle?? I'm really curious. (I'ld invest in a bottle of wine at that price to resell at a profit later....but not olive oil.)

    Cheers

I've never seen anything that was $300-500 and of course now I can't even find any that are the price that what I said. I while back though I was looking for a gift for someone and couldn't believe the prices...now, having said that, it could have been the balsamic vinager that I saw...but anyway, this is all I found with a quick google look ( http://www.blavish.com/a-most-fine-olive-oil/ ), so they are out there:

"The “it” olive oil of the moment is made by Armando Manni. The Italian film director is known for his skills in the entertainment industry as well as in the kitchen. He worked with scientists at the University of Florence to ensure that his Tuscan-grown olive oil is as healthy as it is delicious. And it looks like he did his job.

Some of the world’s most renowned chefs such as Thomas Keller, Jean-Georges Vongerichten and Giorgio Locatelli, swear by Manni olive oil. The oil, reputedly the world’s most expensive, comes in two flavors: Per me (”for me”) a bolder fruit-forward oil & Per figlio (”for my son”) a lighter version made for his little boy.

When tasted, both vintages are strangely dry on the tongue, yet fatty on the lips. The overall effect is a beautiful wash of fruit and flower. Manni claims that the purity of his oils actually cleanses the palate. The cost of a bottle to cleanse your own palate, $260."

I am told they do go for an ungodly amount of money. Evidently, there are folks that like some primo olive oil. Now the 300 to 500 bottle would be somewhat hard to find, but I am told it is there.

We don't sell it. But I am told it is out there.
