exe files

Yoo fellow freaks and geeks,
How do I remove an exe. file from an exe file? Rather than have it self execute I want to open it and see whats inside. I've tried renaming to the likes of rar and zip but no work, any ideas team?

 

You can't "open" it, the best way is to allow it to self execute and extract itself, Just wondering but why do you needs this?

The way (I believe) it works is that compressed data is stored in the exe, then some code so that it can be uncompressed with out having to install WinRAR/ZIP etc. (Save yourself installing a program just to open a single file), so what you are looking at is bassicly a program which is just an algo to uncompress, and some ziped data, if you have some REALLY good reason, and I do mean really good, like the end of the world you can take the huge pain of dis assembling the program, seeing how everything works, etc. But again, this isn't recommended, it's probably too complex for your purposes/needs.

The exe is an expansion type patch/pack for a game and I don't want to install all the mods etc without looking at it first and besides its something I would like to learn more about exe. and play with.

OH! I thought what you were talking about was a self-extracting exe... You know those? I personally don't know how I can help you on that one, usually most installatiosn allows you to install some things and not install some things, but I think it will be too tedious to see what happens for your purposes :-/
