I'm a newbee on here and I have to thank you so much for making this available to clueless people like me!

My computer was attacked and I wasn't able to access the internet at all.

I'm now back on because of you however, it doesn't recognize my programs and keeps asking how to open them, I have no clue to be honest what program to use to open Dropbox or Mozilla or Add/Remove files. It looks like these are all .exe files. I don't see the icons either just looks like an unidentified file. When I was trying to open add/remove files it asked me again...hmmmm

Because of that I wasn't able to get past step one in the clean up process, I ran the Malware Anti-Spyware twice, it still detected 3 more things the second time around. I removed them, don't know if they are now gone for good now. I wasn't able to run the ComboFix and/or Gmtools.

What can I do to complete the process and see the .exe files to be able to open them?

Is there a program that can help with the issue?

Also, while I'm online there's always a program that pops up asking me to do a survey using the name of whatever site I'm on. Any suggestions?

    Thank you so much!!!

    JVB

Which Os are you using? If XP (only XP) you can try Doug Knox's registry fix. (It is safe)

Unzip the file and right-click the EXE_Fix.reg file and select Merge. Accept the warning. See if it re-associates exe files for you.

That worked! Thank you so much! ;)

Last question...should I still complete the clean-up as you suggested in your "Read First" post?

    PS: you guys seriously ROCK!!!!:wave

If you are referring to the final cleanup, then yes, complete that. ;)

Strange thing is, every day when I first start up my computer the .exe files don't work, I have to click the .exe registry file I downloaded to get them all working.

    Any suggestions?
