I should know this one, but I can't find it.

In xp, I click on the start button, then programs. The default is that fold up menu with some options not visiable until I click the down arrow .... I don't want that.

I want the full menu all the time - every time.

I looked at the start button properties, and tried both the "scroll programs" option checked and unchecked - both give me the fold out / scroll down arrows ... how do I get the full menu everytime?

START>SETTINGS>TASKBARandSTARTMENU. Hit the STARTMENU tab on the properties box. Click on "customize"
Scroll down the menu, and uncheck "use personalized menus"
    Click ok.

DON'T feel foolish Ched. The only reason I jumped on your question right away, was because I had done it once, then after doing a "system restore", I couldn't remember how to get the full menu back again !! I must have sat here an hour, trying to remember. But who would think "show personalized menu's" was the thing that did it?? "show full menu's each time" would have been a better way to have it listed. Glad I could help.
    Peace
