    1of 2
Quick synopsis - let my brother use the old laptop for a while. Got it back recently and had to use it since the laptop I had in use had to be returned. It may be that the computer is old but I think it has some infection that keeps it running at a slow pace. The RUN and READ me was executed completely and the following logs resulted.

Please help me and return some good news. The reason I believe it to be infected is that after cleaning the minor infections the computer ran normal. Today, it is running extremely lethargic. Also, the Root Repeal detected a hidden file so don't really know if it was removed with continuing the malware removal procedure.

Thank you for your assistance. :-o

Did you knowingly install the following?:

WinSCP 4.1.9 <-- If not then uninstall it.

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    • O2 - BHO: WormRadar.com IESiteBlocker.NavFilter - {3CA2F312-6F6E-4B53-A66E-4E65E497C8C0} - (no file)
    • O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB} - (no file)
    • O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {D2F8F919-690B-4EA2-9FA7-A203D1E04F75} - (no file)
    • O24 - Desktop Component 0: (no name) - (no file)

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    File::
    c:\windows\system32\drivers\ZF8HHK4KFRY.sys
    Registry::
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\ZF8HHK4KFRY.sys]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{3CA2F312-6F6E-4B53-A66E-4E65E497C8C0}]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB}]

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Now tell me why it is that you are not running any antivirus?

Thank you very much for the assistance Kestrel13! It is very much appreciated.

Good news 1st, successfully removed WinSCP 4.1.9 and the computer sped up also the C:\MGtools\analyse.exe did function with error prompts.

Bad news, following the instructions on the below post resulted in a ComboFix errors pop-up window and no execution of the program. As I make this post it is still in a frozen state. The empty ComboFix status bar simply hovers lacking the usual green bricks of progress. I waited approximately 6 minutes.
The computer did quicken the processing speed but there are still issues blocking ComboFix and the GetLogs.bat

I don't run an AV because I like to live dangerously. :cool Not a true statement. I do run an antivirus but removed it to avoid any conflict, as suggested in the RUN AND READ ME FIRST section of the malware removal.

Help me, Superman...spider man....aquaman even :confused

Can you run my instructions in safe mode?

Yes ma'am. I was able to successfully complete the instructions above by entering safe mode (w/o networking).

After disabling the AV COMODO, ComboFix still warned of running AV. So, I uninstalled it.

One of the popup suggestions was to install the Recovery Console. There was a thought to install MS Windows Recovery Console that the programs request but want your approval first.

    Also, noticed that

O24 - Desktop Component 0: (no name) - (no file)

was not removed after a 2nd analyse.exe was run. Just give me the word and I'll delete everything on the desktop....everything.

    Attached are the requested logs.

    PS Thank you wonderwoman!!! :-D

I will let Kes finish up with you, however, you need to look into increasing the amount of RAM installed:
    Code:
    Total Physical Memory 512.00 MB
    Available Physical Memory 125.88 MB

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

Use windows explorer to find and delete the below file:
    • C:\Documents and Settings\Lou\Application Data\winscp.rnd

Take into account what TimW said.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Thanks Kestrel13!!!

Completed the given instructions and all but the

O24 - Desktop Component 0: (no name) - (no file)

file remains. So if you guys say it will not cause harm I'll leave it there.

TimW, the RAM will be increased now that the computer is free from malware.

Thank you guys once again for keeping us safe from e-viruses. Now, if ya'll could cure this STD....(inappropriate joke)

You are most welcome. You can go to crucial.com and let it scan your system to see how much your motherboard will support in the way of RAM.
