explorer.exe closes and restarts

Good morning,

I am having an issue with someone's computer. I am not sure what/if they have installed anything on it, but for some reason upon login to XP Pro explorer.exe fails to run. I open the task manager ==> file ==> run ==> explorer.exe ==> run

explorer will run for a few seconds then the process seems to be killed (I watch it from task manager) then it will start back up. It will continue to do this approxiamately five time before staying off. So I opened msconfig and found a strange program running at startup. It has no name and when I look for the location it does not give a HKEY location, but it does seem to be in the registry.

I have done some other research, but it seems that no one has a real fix for it. Some say virtumonde, some say reinstall explorer.exe. Any suggestions? Thanks.

 

You know, I would really like to be able to go through the Read and Run me first, but I do not have access to windows explorer. It won't run in Safe Mode either. I have done a repair on Windows to no avail. I have tried PXE image. For some odd reason that isn't working either. Any other suggestions?
