Exploring Abandoned Buildings

Hello. First post. Having a lazy sunday,..and I literally punched in "interesting forums" to google, and surfed in here.

I have been exploring abandoned buildings for 5 years now...it's a fun and rewarding hobby. Thought I'd show some of the places.

Aren't those places fraught with danger? Good God, that looks like a seriously risky hobby. I'll stick to making my beer belly bigger as a hobby.

 

I enjoyed going into old mines, but always on a tour, and escorted. Some of those pics look pretty rough. I think JOTS has a good point. What if you are alone, and you fall and get hurt in one of those places? You could get seriously hurt. :eek Plus, the owner would be liable. Hmmmm...:confused I'd be leery of that myself.

Why would you want to put yourself in such danger? I mean, just breathing around that mold, is scary enough for me.

 

As sad as it is before going on Active Duty i was in the National Guard, and some your pics look better then those places.

as soon as I saw the buildings I knew that was my hometown sweet Chicago. Looks like it could be on of Irving Park around Racine...makes me home sick.

 

Your right, all they are missing are the vines covering half the building.

 

thanks for some of the comments....it never ceases to amaze me how Competition has to always rear it's head on this subject.

 

I'm not sure what you mean by competition.. I don't see anyone competing and surely you have to know that more than just you do this sort of thing Anyhow, welcome to MG


There is this site called http://www.opacity.us and I can't look at them anymore because they really creep me out now (I am a wuss LOL) but there are some really incredible pictures of about gazillion different abandoned locations.. psych wards, schools, hospitals, etc. Neat to look at if you are into that sort of thing.

It's amazing how fast a building decays when abandoned. Creepy, indeed.

Those are stalactites, (stick "tite" to the ceiling is how to remember).

I love mnemonic aids to memory. I remember when my X-wife was in nursing school, she couldn't keep straight what was the bad cholesterol from the good . . . I thought about it, and since LDL is bad, I told her it was Low Down Lousy. She never had a problem again (neither have I, for that matter).

 

Lock and Load ...What part of Chicago are you from? what is also cool is the old pictures of the busses that ran in the sixty's with the electrical rods on top.It would be cold out(0) and they'd pop off.What does this have to do with these old buildings? Well! i would be sitting on these busses looking out at these beautiful places we now see as abandoned..Time Waits For No One...you know what they say(in chicago) "missed your buss don't worry there'll be another one :-Dalong in a minute".
