    Hi all,

I really would like to help a lady that is one floor below me, and 2 apartments in between. I want to share my wifi signal, and she can pick it up, but it flics off, and just won't work well enough for her to watch Netflix, or the other little things she does online.

I wanted to know if there is something her and I can buy that she can have in her apartment, that might help her pull a better signal?

I have Charter wifi only, and a router/modem setup that works wonderfully. I get speeds of right around 50 for downloads. I don't know if you need further info, but I would be glad to supple anything you need. She is too far from me to run an ethernet, plus the fact these are very "nice" apartments, although low-income senior. They won't let us poke any holes etc., LOL!!

Thanks in advance for any help:)

There is nothing you can do to get around the distance. I suggest she get her own WiFi.

Do understand, that most likely is 100% illegal. It typically falls under fraud statutes as "theft of services". She could be arrested for stealing those services and you maybe could too as an accomplice since you would be a willing participant in that theft. If you check your contract, I bet there is some wording there that specifies it is only for those who live at your billing address, or something to that effect.

What you might consider is getting with apartment management and see if they can contract with an ISP to service the entire complex. Everyone has to pay, but it generally is super cheap compared to each apartment paying separately.

I really didn't think of that, glad you mention it. Thank you much, geesh, yeah, I don't want to get into trouble.

A mobile hotspot would give her internet access but watching video of any kind really eats it up quick. But it's good for email, news, getting some reading materials ect. Shas wireless capabilities so it would require still a hotspot(~$50) and the service cards usually in 500m 1g 2g or 4g allotments(~$10-45).

Thanks Imandy;) I know that Charter has this deal that you get wifi for around 40 plus tax, for 12 months. She exceeded her 12 mon. deal and they raised it to 60. We are warned of course when we get the account. I think she needs to budget her money, we talked about it, so she can get her internet. I place internet, even above a phone. I am lucky, I can have both. But I live very simple, and like it that way;)

I appreciate the info so much, I can run it by her, and thanks again to all of you. By the way, she at least can go into the main lobby (has a huge "living room" type area, with bigscreen TV, wifi, and some folks really like to play cards, put together puzzles. She'll do fine;) One thing she could save on is drop that landline phone, and get something like I have, Total Wireless, and a neat MotoE;)
