External Drive no longer recognized HELP!

It's a WEstern digital passport , not even 6 months old, when i was making a document in openoffice, which is on external drive, I suddenly got a pop up that said it coudln't be save. I tried unplugging it & plugging it back it. The "found new hardware" pop up comes up, & "ready to use" after that, but can't get to it through shortcuts; also not listed in drives on 'My Computer'. This is really depressing me as i was just getting all my music lists together to make cd's. :cry:cry:cry:cry
The light on it is still blinking, so i assume that it's working.... :banghead

Can you tell us exactly which model of the WD Passport series it is?

Which Windows are you using, XP, Vista or W7? What Service Pack level?

 

I'm sorry, I was so upset- Its windows millenium upgraded to XP2. When i turned it on this morning, it said that there were disc errors (fat32), even though i turned it off correctly last night, but nothing has changed as far as the external drive.
The box says WD Elements, it's 2TB.

Hmm, not so good then. Can you access another computer to connect the drive to as a test?

Ok; 1 warning, if Windows wants to run a checkdisk on it, cancel - it might cause more damage until any drivers and software are loaded for full access to the drive. Just make notes, look in Disk Management to see what Windows reports the drive as.

 

It hasn't wanted to check the F drive ever. As of now, it believes it doesn't even exist. But I'll keep it in mind.
