    Need to know the following:

Model number of your wireless card -- is it a PC card, PCI card, or a USB adapter?
Have you checked for the most recent drivers for this card?
Which version of Windows you're running

We definitley need more info before helping out with your problem. At the top of each forum is an Announcement specifying how you should ask for help... http://forums.majorgeeks.com/announcement.php?f=21
Check that out and then get the info together for us, and Welcome to MajorGeeks :)

I have that same error with MY linksys card.

    WPC54GS, it's a 54g card with Speedbooster.

Running Windows ME (uck) on a Compaq Presario 1200 (triple uck) ... this is a friend's laptop.

I've confirmed that I'm using the latest driver from Cisco/Linksys... there's only one driver available, and it matches what was on the CD-ROM.

Installation went off without a hitch. It sees my network - I have signal strength in the config utility - but when pointing to the taskbar icon for the config utility, it says it's 100% signal, but the utility itself says 42%.

I have no other NICs or NIC drivers in the laptop.

winipcfg reports "Media Disconnected" and no IP address (it is set for DHCP)

If I tell the network control panel to ignore the media disconnected state and give it a manual IP address and then reboot, I can't even ping the laptop's own address, much less the router.

I've tried changing card settings down to 11b only and turned off anything that looked like speed-boosting, to no avail.

    Any ideas?

By the way, this is a fresh install of Windows ME. All it has is Spybot S&D and MS Works. It has also been windows-updated via a previously-installed DLINK PCMCIA card that functioned fine in the slot I'm trying to use for the new wireless card.
