external hard drive broken

is there a way or a program that i can use so that i can retrieve my files form the broken external hard drive?:cry

How is it broken?

 

whenever i connect it via usb to the computer the computer wont detect it i also tried the device manager to see if its there i also tried calling the company of where i bought that and told me that most probably its broken

 

Have you tried it on another PC, Do other USB devices work on the same slot?


If other devices work, then it may be the cable, try another cable..

Even if the drive was fried, it would still come up as connected unless no power is getting to it.. Which means the damage may be repairable, or you PS wont put out sufficient power for it.. But that is unlikely...

 

i have tried everything that you just said except for trying it to another pc im going to try it tomorrow hopefully it will work coz if it still does not work i dont know what to do :cry

 

If it doesn't, It is a power issue with the drive, as it is not displaying, Send it back to the manufacturer and ask for them to retrieve your data and fix the drive if possible... Costly but only choice to save the data...

 

Just a question, does your Comp run fine? Does it shut down or turn off randomly...

If so it might be a Power supply issue...
