External Hard Drive having trouble

I have a SeaGate 2T GoFlex external. It has worked beautifully for about a year. It's running on a Windows 7 machine.

I had a problem with my computer and had to do a system restore on it. After that point, the external had some issues turning back on without having to unplug it and plug it back in at the outlet.

Now I am having issues accessing files half the time, it tells me that the device is not ready. Sometimes it gives a faint beep before refusing to open folders.

The device was not plugged into the computer during any time during the factory restore. I was scanned with MalwareBytes and no problems.

Is the device dying or is there something I can do to troubleshoot?

 

Okay, a friend of mine had me run sfc.exe/scannow and no problems found.

I also plugged it into the roomate's laptop (Windows XP) and it seemed to work without a problem.

It has now stopped turning on when plugged into mine and just beeps at me, so I am going to assume it is something with my computer?:confused

 

Have you tried it in a different usb port (assuming usb connection), sounds like your usb drivers arent set up correctly or you have a dodgy port.

 

That I have. I've tried all four on the back of the tower. The two ports in the front kinda sorta work sometimes.

I can keep the keyboard, mouse and webcam plugged into those rear ports without a problem though. How would I check set-up for the usb ports?
