[Archive location"create a new backup archive]
At this point the tech threw me off by telling me to browse rather than to click on schedule.

Unless mistaken my product has no choice for incremental, differential etc as they explain that incrementals are being performed automatically.
    Our products may differ here?

Do you delete old back ups and validations by clicking on logs or scheduled/nonscehduled tasks?

Is there a better way to name backups other than the default dates?
I just removed my past three days of confusion and created a new back up and validation this a.m.

If I had wanted to retrieve a file, would I enter the name in the search utility at the top, locate it, right lik and recovered it? Anything else?

I assume if I want to back other things to the 1T drive I plug in and back up -albums etc.
I emailed Mark this a.m. re: some of this material.
You have been so supportive in the past that I defer to you as to how you would like to handle correspondence. I am sensitive to others feelings and wish to do what is appropriate and fair.
    Thank you

I am practising and there is a point I need clarified.
In your pictures, Halo, You say to click schedule after Archive location(create a new archive).
The tech, as I said told me to browse and crate a new folder and name it.
I omitted his advice and did creat a good schedulem the way you said to do.
Question is, with my program, did I miss something by not "browsing and naming new folder" as advise by Acronis? For example will the backup not have a name or something like that?

    Hi Peter

Either way should be fine, in my image 3 you get the option to name the file or keep the default suggested name as well as location to save the image backup.

In image 6, you can set the number of backups not to exceed (2 was my suggestion but you can have more) once you have two backups from the same schedule, the oldest is deleted automatically.

If you use the method I mentioned earlier of creating a folder on your external HDD, and say for desktop its named Desktop Backups and for a laptop Laptop Backup ( I name my folders after the PC, Main Desktop, Acer Laptop, Compaq Laptop etc) that way even wih the default name and date, but I do called mine Sunday Backup and Wednesday Backup so I know exactly what PC and how old the file is.

All you need to do is browse to the location of the image backup and double click it to open the archive up and then keep opening the folders and navigate to the location you want, its just like using Windows Explorer to open the folders on your C drive, right click the file you want to recover and choose copy, then paste it into your actual C drive in the location you wish to save it.

Yes you can save anything you like to that drive, you are not limited to just Acronis backups, with 1TB of space you can manually backup images, docs etc

I'm happy that Marc has got the support techs to assist you and using both routes here on MG and through Acronis Support, will give you all the info you need, betwwen us all we will get you sorted.

Marc has said he has to id my product + than hook me up with a support person -I look froward to it and certainly appreciate your input.

1-when I looked to retreive a file by browing, there was no way to show it unless I opened all files rather than *tib. However, when I used the search utility at the top it found the file as *tib. I right clicked on it and there was an option to recover.
I will keep, copy and paste to my pc's hard drive as an option.

2-I gather I can delete old backups/validations by either 'logs' or scheduled tasks.

3- I must ask, when setting up the schedule, you say to click on schedule -it is proir to the 'schedule' click that one tech told me to click on 'browse and name folder'.
Do you know what that means or sholud I wait on that?

4- so far i click the one step back up then clickvalidate 8 mintes after it says successful -wait 8 minutes and the validate says successful.
I hope to think I am backed up.

5-Do I accesss the hard drive by finding it in my computer then putting other than Acronis backups there? If so, will I be able to recover using Acronis or some other way. I have not yet mentally pictured the ways to access the external, drive and how to put files on it so they will still be retrieved if needed.

    Regards
    Peter
