    Hey Guys,

I have just brought an ICY BOX USB2.0 IB-351StUS and fitted it with a Seagate SATA 250GB 7200.8. I am using a Acer Aspire 1694 2.0GHz P-M, running Windows XP. I am running the drive over USB2.0.

The problem is when i try to format the External HD. Windows states after both a Quick format and a standard format (NTFS) that is was unable to complete the format. I checked to see if the drive would work with another computer and it did.

I formatted the drive on another computer to NTFS and now when i bring it back to my laptop it refuses to recognise the device. SOmetimes it registers the HD for afew seconds but then fails.

Any help trying to format the drive on my laptop or getting the foratted drive to work would be great.

    Tom

Hmmm not sure but if you plug it in does it show up in device manager as working? I.E. no yellow ? marks?

If it is installed ok, I would uninstall it anyway and get the correct drivers from the website, then install the drivers before you connect it to your PC.

There are no drivers taht i can find. On XP it is described as being plug in and play. It doesnt say that the device is malfunctioning as it come up in the USB sublist as an unknown device.

The only device with a yellow mark is one of the PCMCIA controllers

The caddie is the ICY BOX 351StUS and the HD is a 250Gb SATA150 Seagate Barracuda (7200rpm 8Mb (ST3250823AS))

had some inspiration and decided to borrow a USB hub and see what would happen if i ran the HD through that. Now it seems to install itself correctly and appears in my computer (but unusable) but now windows wont format it and it doesnt come up under computer management.
