Extreme Lag in Counter Strike

Hi, me and my brother both play counter strike. We have never had a problem with lag up untill lately(around 3 weeks ago or so)when we we both play at the same time, our pings go up to 300+ compared to the 20-60 we used to get. We both share the internet connection via a D-link DI-624 router. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated .

 

Few suggestions.

Try:
1. One of you try playing WITHOUT the router, just the modem, 1 PC.
2. Scan for viruses, Spyware..etc, on both PC's.
3. Call you're ISP and ask them if there's any issues with speed being reported in you're area, also ask them to ping it for you and check the modem.
4. Make sure neither of the PC's are downloading anything or on any P2P networks.

Hmm thanks for your suggestions. Everything runs fine with just one pc directly to the modem, Ive ran 5 different virus/spyware scans and im clean, Called the ISP and everything is running properly and up to speed, and none of us run any p2p software :/. But when calling my ISP I found out about a deal for a faster speed 5meg compared to the 3meg that i had for just a few bucks more a month so I decided to upgrade and that seems to take care of it. For future reference, if these problems occur again, it might be time to replace the router seeing as everything runs well with 1 PC to the modem. Personally I don't like D-Link, their overrated in my book.

I use Linksys on my small network, I've had it setup for 3 an a half years, my speeds have been around 5000 kBp/s on regular service, not mention I'm a bit more than an avid gamer so it's under stress alot.

Anyway that's just my opinion.

ive been using dlink for bout 5 years havnt had a problem with it and on the sad lonley summer nights me and about 5 friends play CS 1.6 untill 4 or 5 in the morning and our ping is fine none of us have spectacular pcs i have 1.8 ghz P4 wih 256 ram and a nvidia 5200 256mb and i get less than 20 ping all day long
