Not been a good year for the old Phantom. Firstly, I had that Bronchial Pneumonia virus thing, twice all winter long. Then I had a relapse of Bone Cancer, after supposedly being free of it for 25 years, along with all the necrotic ulcers and other niceties associated with it. Then I busted my right ankle and just getting over that one. Now, yesterday, I ended up in the E.R. again with a biggish hemorrhage in my right eye.

Looks a lot better than yesterday, but I still get some weird looks from people with exactly one half of my eye blood red and the other half white. Looks like a bad, half-finished make-up session from a Dracula movie, LoL.

A bit bruised, too. looks like I've had a punch in the face, or something, eh.

Crappy photo of it - but you get the drift..

Glad this year is nearly over, t.b.h. .:(.

...and with that, my crappy year has suddenly looked like a great one.

    Hang in there, friend :(

I know exactly how you feel as I have SLE (systemic lupus erythematosus) which is incurable and in my case is always attacking my eyes causing near blindness so I have ongoing daily health problems :(
Maybe some steroids will reduce the inflammation and some blood thinning drugs to get the blood clots out of the capillaries in your eye and then you will be on the mend. Hopefully the doctors know what caused the hemorrhage and can prevent it recurring rolleyes

Sounds like you have had a worse year than me:( I hope 2013 is much better for you :)
Good luck with the eye and I hope you have a speedy recovery :cool
Maybe get some dark glasses so it doesn't look like you've been in a fight lol ;)

Thanks guys. Yeah, it has been a craptastic year for me, health-wise. Add to that, estimated lost earning of at l east $150K+ and horrendously large medical bills, (I am in Medicare Private, but I am waaay over the limit, so that's still hurting, financially).
pretty certain that the hemorrhaging is as a direct consequence of the chemotherapy course, as I've just finished it, (after seven weeks, it is no longer viable to have any more 'poison' drips, as it will start killing me more than the cancer - so that's ended).
Yes, on the steroids, anti-biotics, anti-inflammatories, Oxycotines; etc, etc.

Hey Joffa, I hope that you manage to find some relief as well, my friend. ~ Yep, life's not always kind, is it.

While I've had the absolutely, most craptastically awful year, emotionally, I still thank God I am (and have been so far) healthy. In fact, when my doctor gave me the results of the bazillion (or so it seemed) tests he ran recently, he said my blood was *perfect*. Which in spite of everything, makes me very grateful.

I'm sorry to hear that you've been so ill lately :( Hoping you are feeling better very, very soon and here's to a MUCH better new year (we don't have to wait until January to start ;)).

Already been there, done that, got the... I already have to wear an eye patch, (and it's black! ;)) All I need to do is war my white 'puffy shirt' and I'll be right for Halloween.LOL I draw the line at a Parrot on my shoulder, though. I don't need 'white stripes' running down the back of my shirt! .roflmao. I tried the flesh coloured eye patches, but they looked even weirder. Kinda like a mutant with one eye. No, the Cyclops look is not the way forward.

Thanks again for the well-wishes, good people.:)

I recently had a red hot piece of metal burn into my cornea from a grinder, they removed it then had to remove leftover rust with a little dremel thing a week later.

I asked for an eye patch because it hurt to use especially near light and he said we don't use eye patches over damaged eyes that need to heal anymore as the eye isn't provided oxygen through the blood it's absorbed from the air around the eye, interesting trivia I thought though obviously a haemorrhage is a different kettle of fish.

So to say the least understand the discomfort:(

Get well soon mate and don't worry about the money it's worthless compared to time.:)

Re: Rikky:- Ouch!..That sounds pretty painful too, man! ("Mr. Safety says: "Always be sure to wear safety goggles and gloves when using grinders or other power tools."").;)

Thanks for all the the good thoughts and well wishes, everyone.
The hematoma is a little bigger today and extends over the half way eye mark. 'Prolly nothing to worry about. I have another appt. with the Doc and the Physiotherapist in the morning, so I'll see what they say. G/f was panicking a bit and wanted me to go straight to E.R. again, but no way for me. I'm a stubborn old grouch, sometimes.LOL

I was wearing them believe it or not it went in the gap at the bottom:cry 15 years I've been grinding and welding and never had a problem but I imagine that piece of metal had been waiting a lot longer and had my name on it:-D

Do they know what's caused the problem with your eye,is it a side effect of the medication your on or something?

And to think I was complaining about being older yesterday. :(

I'm so sorry, Barry. You are the second person in the last two days that I had no idea was going through such horrible health problems.

I'm sending good karma and wishes to you.

    Phantom Brigadier Britches

Yes, pretty much. Osteosacoma, plus some aggressive chemotherapy, plus anti-inflammatories, plus hypertension, (severe), plus antibiotic over treatment have combined to cause vascular degeneration and weakening.
I've had it before, with cancer, Round I and I woke up in a puddle of blood. This one isn't as bad, believe it or not - but still far from minor.
Just part of the general shit-fest of the disease. (And yep, my Industrial Chemistry years are the cause).
I've decided that if they say I need radiation therapy again, or amputation, I'm just going to tell them to "stick it". I am NOT going through radiation B.S. again. If it comes to that, I have few concoctions to at least exit in a pain-free way, (I'm an Industrial Chemist - use your imagination as to what I mean).

Bad luck with the grinder, Rikky. I have had a similar, but fortunately, more minor thing happen to me, actually. So it definitely happens no matter how careful you are.

Well, it's gone all orangy-yellow as well as blood red, now. I just hope it's not getting infected again! I'm already taking enough antibiotics to sink a battle ship for all the other issues - damn it!:(

I sympathise, the discomfort is bad enough but not knowing what exactly is happening in your own body is pretty scary but when it's your eye's it's a whole different ball game,a scary ball game.

    No much fun to play:(

If you need anything done computer-wise, just holler. I know how hard it is to see some of this crap even with healthy eyes, so I can imagine it's twice as hard with vision problems - so, if you need anything typed, scanned, read, drawn, etc., shoot me an IM for an e-mail addy and I'll donate some 'puter time.

    Hang in there, bud. ;)

Hmmm..... not sounding very good at all :(
The discomfort would be bad enough on its own but not knowing would be the big worry especially because it's eyesight. What a bummer:(
Been in this situation many times myself and know exactly how you feel..... and it's lousy :(
Best wishes and with some good luck and plenty of rest hopefully you'll be on the mend:)

It's not all bad news, by any means, though. The ulcers on the legs are starting to heal up, the one on my abdomen is gone and I don't have Leukemia, (in other words - not in the bloodstream, thank God), so I'm 'prolly not going to kick the bucket just yet. The eye is a bit better, too - but a lot further to go on that one.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that in amongst the crapfest, that was 2012, I also had the huge displeasure of passing kidney stones and peeing blood, back in April. I forgot about that little lark .rolleyes. I think it was just part of the big, bad picture, actually.
~Sheesh -my BIO. for the year sounds worse that a bad script for 'Days of Our Lives', or something! .rolleyes

Warm thanks go out to all you well-wishes out there. It does make a difference knowing that folk care. May be only 'cyber friends', but there are real people on the other end of the 'Net connection. Just as real as I am. So thanks, all.:):cool I don't have family or anything to care for my issues, so I guess that you good people are the nearest thing, if you know what I mean.;)

Never good a bloodshot eye, but what your Ophthalmologist say about it, pressure and ruptured vessel in the Sclera (subconjunctival haemorrhage is likely suspect I would hazard a guess at)?

but would need to have checked out to rule out Uveitis or Glaucoma, but in the main it could be caused by a simple cold or fatigue!

Most of the time it will go in a few days to a week, had the same myself, luckily I work with Ophthalmologists so can get it checked out and eyes scanned easily.

Hope you feeling much better this weekend Barry?

  33. Phantom

    Phantom Brigadier Britches

Yeah it's basically a pretty bad subconjunctival haemorrhage, Dave. The disturbing part is that I get them when, shortly after I.V. chemo course for the cancer problems. trouble is, I end up with toxicosis as well. One of the symptoms is a tendency of blood vessels and kidneys, etc. to haemorrhage. When it happened years ago, I woke up in a pol of blood - yech! Been about 2+ weeks and a lot of it has gone, but still looks as if I have been partying for a week, LoL!
Oh, yeah, a bit of bruising and stuff around the eye sockets and face as well, but that part is pretty much gone, now.

Yeah sadly the small vessels in the eye are prone to rupturing when on meds like you are.

    Keep well Barry.
