I have a few family members who I'm friends with on facebook that feel the need to put up something new multiple times a day. The one loves to put up pics of herself and where she is...usually about 5 within an hours time if she's out having fun...like everyone else is supposed to really care.

My other family member does they same, but they are all kid photos (which is fine...if it weren't at least one a day) or inspirational things regarding her kids...which again is fine if it wasn't constantly.

Honestly, if it weren't for candy crush, I'd probably never be on there. My kids don't even use it anymore...nor do many kids. I think its all adults with too much time on their hands who use it. I go on once in a while to put a pic of my kids or my dogs....lol...mostly my dogs.

I guess its just one of those things where I have to go wtf do people really thinks that anyone cares that they are out at this restaurant eating or drinking whatever they are eating or drinking?

Not a new rant, just a build up of the last month of seeing the stupid drivel.

If you are going to write drivel....PLEASE make it interesting!

Can't agree with you more. I rarely log in. I get messages about who posted what through gmail, and it is usually just trivial crap. Some things should just remain private.

I have not logged into face book since mafia wars days that was about 4 or 5 years ago.

I had two accounts for that game but since i deleted one.

But in any case Facebook is filled with nothing but spam and virus's.No matter what i did i all ways seemed to get at lest one game request per day if not10 a day i blocked so many spammers and games it was not even funny.

Face book accounts can be hacked so easy. That is not even funny i never put my real name or info like that that is a mistake that people do on them sites. And people wonder way there info get's stolen over the internet.

I do not remember the other chat site name that was like face book but basically the same way.

Facebook got dumb after about a year or two.

I can agree with both of you face book is now a waste of time if you ask me.

I figure if someone on my friend list doesn't want to see what I post, they have the technology at their disposal to filter what posts they see. My wall is for what I want to post on it. ;)

That said...I'm probably one of those people you'd hate. I don't always post multiple times per day, but I do post frequently. Especially over the last few years when I've had multiple surgeries and couldn't leave my house without huge effort if at all for weeks (or months) at a time. But really...I have people whose posts I choose not to see, and many apps and games I block, and I make lists to control who sees what posts I make. With all the filtering abilities Facebook offers, there's no reason to have to see a bunch of stuff that bothers you.

There is no doubt I have the ability to block them. I just feel like I shouldn't have to. I did though right after I put up that post. I resented them all their spammy crap even more after I did when I noticed the other people's stuff I had missed since the two people's things monopolized my whole news feed.

So yes, I do have the ability and I did do it. But really, why do people want to post so much that people feel the need to??

I don't have you on my feed so couldn't say whether I'd feel that way about you or not, Beth. Maybe I would and maybe I wouldn't. Based on your posting here though, I'd probably go with the your stuff wouldn't come close to what I'm talking about.

The thing is, I am very picky about who is on my friend's list. In 3 or 4 years, I still only have probably 30 on my list (maybe more or less...I can't remember). These two by far monopolize my feed. I just couldn't take it any more. They are like those people who are in a group and talk to hear themselves talk and don't let anyone else get a word in...that's how they are on my news feed.

Facebook is awesome I don't know how you guys can diss it so much:mad

    :-D

Even if Facebook was the greatest, most fun thing since slicing bread naked I still wouldn't use it because it's like posting a permanent, personal data base about yourself, it's the first place the police, private investigator, criminal or just malicious person looks for a picture of you and your name.

Beside the risk of actually having my identity stolen I just don't like the idea of it.

Facebook is nothing but bad spam and bad at spamming games that most people don't play or care too. This is one reason i stopped.

I had over 3,000 members on my list be cause of my mafia wars that is where all the hate started with me,I got so tired of blocking shit.

I'm an Apple product hater too, so no playing Candy Crush on my phone. I must play it on Facebook. Although I've been stuck on this one level so long, I'm even thinking that might not keep me from dumping FB.

lmao...what is with you and slicing bread naked?

    Hmmm I don't even have a Facebook account :-D
When MySpace was popular I had an account and worked out pretty early that it was mostly trivial rubbish so never joined the Facebook or Twitter clubs :-D

Now I have to put up with my two kids whining about their friends posting endless rubbish which comes up as a constant stream of alerts on their Smartphones roflmao When I suggested closing Facebook on their phones or turning off alerts, I was met with are you kidding......... we need to know if ppl are posting about us so we can respond immediately roflmao

My daughter and some friends just returned from a 2 week holiday in Bali where they spent most of the time sitting around the pool texting their friends who couldn't come saying how good it was and updating their Facebook status every 20 mins depending on what they were currently eating or drinking. In my younger days if you went to another country you went on a few trips to see what the country has to offer but no, they stayed in a five star hotel and went from the pool, to the bar, to the nightclub and then to recover, to the gym. Although they did manage to go on a shopping trip to get some cheap clothes ;)

Hehehehe my daughter just received one of these "urgent" alerts on her phone................ to see a pic of a friends toe nail clippings ewwww :puke
WTF it got 32 likes :confused :confused
Get me a drink, I must be missing something :confused :confused :confused

That's the other thing I think is horrible about all these things...the haha, here I am at this party on this trip and you're not here thing. I personally haven't experienced that since like I said, I have all of 30 or so friends and they are all relatives for the most part, but I've seen my adult sister get upset when neighbor friends had limited people get togethers and she wasn't invited....because they talk about plans on facebook. Why aren't they doing that by text or something?

lmao...well, thank god for small favors that I haven't gotten to see pics of toenail clippings. I Did, however get to see a pic of my cousin's kid's appendix that had been taken out by my surgeon uncle. That was very special. :(

Dunno, it started ten years ago when I joined a bread slicing team but the recession and ticket prices kept everyone away so they had the bright idea of doing it naked.

I don't agree with the policy but the bread slicing union is in talks with the league to have it banned or make it safer after the largely publicised 'Salami gate' incident. We are currently in talks with the olympic board to have it recognised as an official sport:major

Years ago I downloaded a recommended software (forgot which one) and it was recommended on that forum (not MG) to sign up to Facebook. So I did, dummy me!!

As soon as I had signed in, a name of a person who I knew from another forum where I used to post many years ago jumped right on the page. That freaked the bejus out of me and so immediately cancelled my Facebook account. Not sure if that worked though. I never went back or will in the future. That's my 5 minutes of experience on Facebook.

To each their own. No texting, tweeting, twittering or whatever for me either.

I understand that sometimes all that social stuff can be beneficial for some or not.

I'm on Facebook, but I keep a very tight rein on who gets accepted as a friend. I have nothing more than my name on the page, not even a phone number. And my photo is one that's been described as looking like a serial killer.

Besides, if you can find me on facebook, you already know my name.

I set up a second account so I can play Criminal Case and Candy Crush without bothering my friends/family and so when I do log on to play games I'm not bothered. I got tired real quick when I would log on to play a few games and unwind before bed only to have someone striking up a conversation. If it's midnight... leave me alone lol.

I actually get a lot more enjoyment out of my 'fake' account then I do the other one.

It was last year or the year before that i signed into an FB account,it was for something here at MGs but i can now no longer remember what it was.

Maybe i am a dinosaur but i just can not get my head around this posting everything that happens throughout the day as though it is the most important event ever.

As was mentioned in an earlier post it is the first place that criminals looking to steal identities go to purely because people put sooooo much info on there.

I can not remember where i read it but employers are using FB to vet applicants for jobs by checking their pages, those with strange habits don't even get to the interview stage.

Anyone who has a FB account should seriously review their privacy settings. If someone wants to see my page, it's for friends only. If I don't know you well enough to invite you into my home, I'm not accepting your "friend" request. My personal photo is NOT on my page (if you know me that well you already know what I look like) and photo tagging is turned off. These rules also apply to LinkedIn and other social media sites.

I saw a story on the news last week that reinforced this. A university professor had a few dozen students consent to letting him attempt to mine their personal data online by initially accessing the volunteers' public FB profile. Without resorting to hacking, the prof. was able to cross reference a treasure trove of data (including, in some cases, Social Security Numbers) that ID thieves would drool over.

I've also turned off e-mail notifications of new FB posts. True "friends" know FB is a light hearted way to share funny pics, thoughts and random rants that do not require an immediate (or, for that matter, any) reply. If they (or I) have serious news to share, this is why e-mail and the telephone exist.

I find Facebook quite interesting. Over the years I have acquired about 100 friends; real people I have met, traveled with, went to school with, worked with, or played music with. People I have met in Africa, Asia, Australia, or people who used to live here in Japan, but have moved on since. And of course family members who live in the old country, or elsewhere in the world.

I like to know how they do, and what is happening to them. Decades ago we used to write letters to keep one another informed, but who does this these days? E-mail is not really a replacement for letter-writing, but FB keeps us easily informed.

Yes, there are people who post too much; these are subject to un-friend if it gets too much. I only had to resort to that twice. Most people people I know post rarely (as I do), when something important is up. Sometimes it's nice to see a photo of someone you haven't met for many years.

Recently there are lots of ads on FB; kind of irritating, but they are mostly very short. Never received any spam.

For me FB works rather nicely.

Yeah, it's easy. If you contact me on FB and I ignore you, and you contact me in another way, you're going to get the telemarketer whistle. And if I don't friend you and you get up in arms, I unfriend you in person. I value my privacy above all else. If you don't respect that, I want nothing to do with you.

I got rid of my (personal) account because of this. It got annoying with my friends constantly updating their status with inane things like they just made toast or some nonsense, love life updates, checking in to places, posting pics of the places or a million selfies. I honestly do not care who your are with, why you broke up, where you are or what you are doing every second of everyday.

I couldn't handle the annoying-ness but I felt bad about unfriending people so I just closed the whole account. Besides, if I did unfriend people I'd only have about 3 people left when I was done. :-D

Every internet service company is trying to consolidate all your information into one place until you become a product that can be sold. I don't mind adsense using my IP history to choose ads to show me what it doesn't have is my real name, phone number, birthday or anything about me, when I change my IP it gets wiped.

Google annoys me with that constantly trying to get a mobile number and linking my browsing history with my searches, just because I use Youtube and haven't signed out, if I change my IP then sign into Youtube it can link my old IP with my new IP also.

I would love to see someone come up with a non-malware program that could be set to do random stupid searches ("purple people eater", "avocado stove", etc.) when you're away from the computer. This would totally f:***k up data mining for search engines and be an easy option for people who can't easily change their IP address.

Have any of you ever heard of Zurker? I joined a little while ago, and although it is a work in progress, I honestly believe it has a future. It's fresh and although it is still raw and needs development, I truly believe it has the potential to be something great.
Here are a few key oints in case any of you are interested :)

    - Freedom of Speech (no censorship)
    - Privacy Guarantee
    - Democractic (we're in the early stages but we're writing our constitution)
    - No adverts
    - Chance to become a co-owner
    - Over 18's only
    - No games
    - Zero tolerance of spam
    - You CAN (and are actively encouraged) to connect with people you don't know.

In a nutshell, Facebook has a billion + members, is more polished, is highly motivated to make-money for its shareholders and is controlled by one man.

Zurker has only about 400,000 members, is in beta, is co-owned by about 30,000 members, has core values and principles, and will be developed in accordance with it's members wishes.

The site is very raw still but it has so much potential. If any of you are programmers and looking for something to get your teeth into, then it could be just the thing for you! Anyway - I've rambled on a lot. I'm enthused about it at the moment - can you tell? Lol. Maybe you should check it out anyway and see for yourselves :)
