    Hi,

I've got a Gigabyte S1080 Slate PC (http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3690#kf) and somehow it got totally wiped..or, at least, it would not boot (I think I wiped it attempting to reinstall Win 7). When booting I've got 3 options in the Boot Menu (F12) and they all load to:

Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller v2.29...Media Test Failure. Exiting PXE.ROM. No bootable device...

    I went here: https://kb.iu.edu/d/bciz

...and scrolled to, "Creating a Windows 7 flash drive installer on a Windows computer" and downloaded the 32 bit version (which I'm not sure is correct) of Windows 7 Ultimate from Digital River.

    I then went here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/windows-usb-dvd-download-tool

...and downloaded Windows USB/DVD Download Tool.

I've got it on a flash drive and I've got the product key.

When attempting to install the OS the process gets to the screen that asks "Upgrade" or "Custom." I run Custom and the result is, "Setup was unable to create a new partition or locate and existing partition. See log file for more info."

From setup I've tried "Format" and "New" with the same partition error resulting.

I came to MG to see if there was 3rd-party bootable partition manger that would create a partition. Didn't find one.

    I don't know what I'm doing and I'm STUCK!

Can someone help me and tell me what I need to do?

    Do you need more information?

    Thanks!

    Rocklin

    Thanks, Just Playin!

I can't say with 100% certainty on the HDD. It's kind of a long story, but somebody (not me, I promise) loaded a shell, "...because it looked cool!" After that I couldn't get Windows to run well and I couldn't get the shell deinstalled. So I tried booting in Safe Mode and just got a black screen with "Safe Mode" in the four corners, i.e., I couldn't do anything. I tried several other things and the shell was still loading until I tried the reinstall. So, that indicates that the HDD is still good.

I'll download the programs you suggested and give 'em a shot.

I use gparted all the time. I was just going to suggest it as well.

The processor you have is 64-bit, so I suggest, you use a 64-bit version of windows.

The other thing it could be is you need a driver for the sata controller, without that the drive will not be recognized either.
