Failure Installing SQL Server Express 2005

    I am using Windows XP SP3 OS. Dell PC desktop.

    I have tried to install SQL Server Express 2500 from MS website executable file (free).

    I get error message on a window:

    "There was a sudden failure in set up wizard ".

    I have tried several solutions found on the web such as deleting MSXLM 6.0 but nothing seems to fix the problem.

    Has anyone found an answer ?

    Unfortunately, .NET 3.5 does not have the same functionality as .NET 2. (Certain programs need certain versions.) If a program needs .NET 2 and it is not installed, you will have a problem.

    Try installing .NET 2 and then try to install SQL Server Express 2005.

    It turns out that I show versions of .Net Framework 2 SP1, and SP2 as being installed....

    Hi

    Do run Windows Update and make sure your Windows XP SP3 and .Net versions are upto date as there have been a few updates to .Net of late.

    What Dell PC model do you have as some CPUs have issues with SQL?

    Could also follow this HERE
    If you find the log for install here >> %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG then attach it as per these instructions below

    DavidGP:

    PC is Dell Dimension 2400. Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.80 GHz, 2.0 GB RAM.

    There are no other Windows updates found for .NET etc...
