Failure to Configure

    I am a COMPLETE newbee. I went to shut down my computer a few nights ago and it said it needed to install some updates. Fine. Next morning I go to start up, it says Failure to Configure Windows, Reverting (could be wrong word), then it reboots. Now this happens at various times throughtout the day it reboots attempting to install these 'important' updates. ANd again at shutdown in the evening and start up in the AM.

    I'm running Windows 7. The computer is about a year old. I haven't done anything exciting to it. I've searched online and I get a bunch of computer lingo that may as well be French. Anyone here speak 'English computer lingo for Dummies'?

    There were a lot of updates this month. Check the Windows Update and also your history (at Windows Update) and you might discover that it is still in the process of downloading and installing the updates.

    Does the same thing happen when you manually restart Windows (instead of shutting down, then starting cold)?

    Pwillener - Yes, the same thing happens when I shut down manually.

    plodr - I checked my history and it started failing on the 15th. THe error says:

    Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2345886)

    Installation date: ‎10/‎15/‎2010 12:02 PM

    Installation status: Failed

    Error details: Code 80004005

    Update type: Important
