    Hi Halo !!

Thanks ever so much for your reply!!
I do appreciate it when someone tries to help!

Unfortunately at the moment I've got a million things to do and I don't know quite when I will find the time to go through all the checking etc involved in trying to get rid of the problem.

The problem is still very much in the machine and Mccaffee keeps on saying that "A Trojan has been detected and removed" , but it still comes back a little later on!! Very annoying!!

I will keep looking at what others say and I will try and do what you the experts suggest.

My theory is that this thing is quite simply a "Fake Trojan" that has been put there by somebody so that you will by their removal software (I have seen icons and links pointing to things like "www.securityonline.com" and "onlinesecurity.com" etc.

    Very, Very Naughty!!!

Any further comments greatly appreciated and eagerly awaited!!

    Cheers,

    Bill

There is not that much involved in running the procedure Halo gave you. It is quick and fairly painless. There is nothing for you to check accept what is written in that procedure. This week alone I would say more than 100 people have run it.

    Hi Guys,

I'm back with an update on this which I'm sure you will find interesting!

Well, I haven't had the chance to go through the recommended procedure for the removal of "Spywarequake", BUT, the whole "FakeAlert-B" thing has vanished completely out of my machine!!!!
All I did is I kept doing anti spyware scans and McAffee anti virus scans which picked nothing up but the damn thing still kept coming back!!! And then, out of the blue it stopped and nothing has showed up for over two weeks now!

This is all really weird but I think what was happening is that the malware is designed to make people think that their machine is infected and then it directs them to the website to buy their removal product, and then somehow it expires!! (This is also possibly why it calls itself "FAKEalert-B").

Also, I never saw anywhere on my machine any files or reference to "SpywareQuake".

All very weird stuff and maybe I'm stll wide off the mark and the malware is still there only to start popping up again when it feels like it again!!

It would be very interesting to see if anyone else has had a similar experience with "FakeAlert-B".

I will keep you posted if there are any further developments.

You should still run the procedures recommended. You do not have to see SpywareQuake anywhere. There are loads of other forms of the SmitFraud family of infections and the procedure helps to fix them. Just not seeing the warning screen and hoping that you are clean, does not mean you are clean.

We are fixing dozens of these everyweek......so yes, other people are seeing the fake alert notice.
