I loved the original Series and have been trying to play it on my computer with some success however, it will randomly freeze and the only way I can do anything is to hard shut off my computer. It also will randomly just drop and my monitor will say shutting off in 5 seconds. The power on the actual machine is still on and I have to hard shut it off again.

I bought the fallout trilogy pc dvd-rom. I have managed to beat the first fallout despite having to hard shut down too much however I want to play with it more to see the different possibilities. Also not be as unkind to my computer.

I looked around for patches to this product but only found one that talked about a problem with the fallout tactics part of the trilogy not even starting. I tried starting that and it opened fine.

My PC is a eMachines AMD Athlon duel core processor 4050e 2.10 GHz with 3.00 GB of ram and using Windows Vista Home Premium. I looked at a few other posts and saw one about overheating but I wonder if it's really an issue on a game that old, I am using an old ViewSonic G90f monitor but that seems unlikely for the cause to me.

If I should be supplying more info let me know what. Thanks in advance for any help.

The first thing to remember is that while they have been re-released, they were designed back during the 95/98 era, and may well need to be run in compatibility mode. Shortcut Properties> Compatibility and then experiment with modes.

Second thing to remember, is to look on the disc and see what patches there are for the games, and make sure they've been installed. They probably won't fix the problem you're having, but they might, and they'll probably improve the gameplay.

More than likely, the problem stems from Vista being... well, Vista, which is to say the worst piece of software ever to come out of any software company. Ever. And nothing short of an upgrade to XP or 7 will solve the problem.

Never used Windows ME, did you? ;)

Aktino, try this patch, and have no other mods/patches installed. Download button in lower left. I've seen a number of users on the NMA forums say the TeamX patches made the game work on Vista. If it doesn't fix it, NMA is a great place for info and Fallout game help. Post your plight to get expert help :)

    Hi

Have you also made sure your graphics card drivers are upto date?

Is Windows Vista also fully upto date?

I would as a test disconnect from the internet and disable your antivirus and security applications and see if game works ok. (also what is your antivirus and security apps)

*as for Vista its fine, worked well in the times I used it from beta, release to SP2.

Mimsy: I did use ME, and it was AWESOME. That's how I know Vista is so bad. :-D

Halo: It works fine as long as you don't try and do anything else besides run it. :-D

Might also be a video card issue, so check it's drivers. Alternately, try ALT-TABing out of the game, and then using the Task Manager, to set the affinity to only one processor. It might not help, but I have to do that for GalCiv 2, so it's worth a shot.
