Hijack This would not create a log in normal mode. This is the log when I ran it in safe mode. I also had to unzip the file in safe mode because the self-extracting exe file kept crapping out. Let me know what else you need.

I got a message about the hosts file but it had only one entry:
    127.0.0.1 localhost

    Thanks for your help.

Rescan with Hitman and have it fix Potential Unwanted Programs.

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    • R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = *.local;192.168.*.*
    • R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {167d9323-f7cc-48f5-948a-6f012831a69f} - (no file)
    • O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {5911488E-9D1E-40ec-8CBB-06B231CC153F} - (no file)
    • O6 - HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
    • O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - (no file)
    • O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Sun Java Console - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - (no file)
    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    http://img805.imageshack.us/img805/9659/rktigzy.gif Fix items using RogueKiller.

Double-click RogueKiller.exe to run. (Vista/7 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
When it opens, press the Scan button
Now click the scheduled tasks tab and locate these 2 detections:

    • [V2][SUSP PATH] DSite : C:\Users\Jonathan\AppData\Roaming\DSite\UPDATE~1\UPDATE~1.EXE - /Check [-] -> FOUND
    • [V2][SUSP PATH] Searchya : C:\Users\Jonathan\AppData\Roaming\Searchya\UPDATE~1\UPDATE~1.EXE - /Check [x] -> FOUND

Place a checkmark each of these items, leave the others unchecked.
    Now press the Delete button.
When it is finished, there will be a log on your desktop called: RKreport[2].txt
Attach RKreport[2].txt to your next message. (How to attach)
    Reboot the machine.

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Let us know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

No threats listed to fix in Hitman.

HijackThis ran and I fixed per your instructions.

Roguekiller: I have Win7 (64bit) so ran as administrator. Was that the right thing to do? Also, when it competed, there was no "Scheduled Tasks" tab. I clicked on everything, but perhaps I just missed it. Please advise. Thanks for all of your help.

Just rerun Hitman again then and attach the log for me regardless of what it does or does not find. :)

Same for RogueKiller, scan again and attach log.

Then you need to do this: Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

OK, Thanks. All logs are attached.

    fixME.reg ran successfully.

OK, clearly, Hitman does indeed list threats:

Are you able to have Hitman delete them or not?

    Delete these:
    • C:\Users\Jonathan\AppData\Roaming\DSite
    • C:\Users\Jonathan\AppData\Roaming\Searchya
Re run RogueKiller, just a scan and attach log.

All deleted, rebooted and attached RogueKiller log.

    Download and run OTM.

Download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.

    Code:
    :Files
    C:\Users\Jonathan\AppData\Roaming\DSite
    C:\Users\Jonathan\AppData\Roaming\Searchya

    :Commands
    [emptytemp]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
    • Push the large http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2782/4174320048_f01c448b32_o.png button.
    • OTM may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
    • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it in your next reply.

NOTE: If you are unable to copy/paste from this window (as will be the case if the machine was rebooted), open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document into a text file and attach it here in your next post.

Re run RogueKiller yet again ans attach log please. Thanks.

I gave you two log files because I did not disable AVG (created an exception), so OTM stopped the first time.

    RogueKiller log file also attached.

    Thanks again.

Do these folders exist? Can you see them?
    • C:\Users\Jonathan\AppData\Roaming\DSite
    • C:\Users\Jonathan\AppData\Roaming\Searchya

When you go to C:\windows\tasks what exactly do you see?

  13. jmwarshay

Folders are deleted. Please see attachment for c:\windows\tasks.

    Thanks.

And how are things running currently?

  17. jmwarshay

The fan still is running a lot, though perhaps it is my model running hot. It is an HP p8210y, and I have seen comments on several forums that it runs hot.

The system itself is pretty responsive. All my applications seem to load quite fast.

Thanks for all of your help.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
