    For Firefox, go under "Tools", and then "Add Ons". Fast Browser Search. Click "Uninstall".

    Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    DirLook::
    c:\program files\SecurityXploded
    RegLock::
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E96D-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000\AllUserSettings]
    @Denied: (A) (Users)
    @Denied: (A) (Everyone)
    @Allowed: (B 1 2 3 4 5) (S-1-5-20)
    "BlindDial"=dword:00000000
    "MSCurrentCountry"=dword:000000b
    FF::
    FF - ProfilePath - c:\users\colleen\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\v3pq41rr.default\
    FF - prefs.js: browser.search.defaulturl - hxxp://www.fastbrowsersearch.com/results/results.aspx?s=DEF&v=19&q=
    FF - prefs.js: browser.search.selectedEngine - Fast Browser Search
    FF - prefs.js: keyword.URL - hxxp://www.fastbrowsersearch.com/results/results.aspx?s=NAUS&v=19&tid={756AD8F5-395A-4A67-90FA-EE29B3FC57FE}&q=

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

    Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

    Thank you Kestrel13! for your reply.

    I have looked in the FireFox tools addons many times. There is no uninstall for the Fast Browser Search. I have also gone to About:Config and reset. There is one entry that refuses to be reset or modified. I have attached the screenshots of before and after.

    I have gone to the small search window and removed all searches except for google. When I restart the browser the Fast Browser Search is back in that window, along with the other searches. the tool bar I can not seem to eliminate at all. Do you still want me to run the ComboFix?

    Yes! I want you to run everything I asked in my last post. :)

    I can't attach the log. After running the ComboFix and the computer rebooting I can not open anything. Opening FireFox or folders on the desktop gives the following

    "Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion."

    In Firefox go to tools > add-ons > see if Tatoodle is there and uninstall it.

    Now let's try the fix again.

    That did not work either, I don't know why. Please try this:

    Click Start, Run, and copy and paste the below into the Run box and click OK.

    This should bring up your preferences file for FireFox in a notepad window. Look for lines containing the below information and delete the whole line where it appears.
    After deleting those lines, click File, and select Save. If you cannot save the file, close all browsers first before saving.

    Now if the above did not work then I suggest that you uninstall Mozilla Firefox after booking up your bookmarks > reboot the machine > reinstall Firefox and then tell me how things are running.

    Have edited the users preferences, fast browser search is still there. Had a question before I uninstall FireFox. There was 10 fast browser search of various forms listed in the preferences. I deleted them all. While doing this I noticed there is multiple instances of fbstoolbar. Is this the fast browser search as well? Is it safe to delete all of them as well? Have attached a copy of the file for your reference.

    Yes. So do so and try again, see if it's still there or not.

    Deleted everything that looked like it would be the culprit and no luck. I uninstalled FireFox and deleted all folders pertaining to FireFox. Rebooted and installed FireFox. The tool bar is finally gone! It is also gone from the drop down search window.

    You have been wonderful!

    I did notice that while on IE to download the FireFox there is a startsearcher set as default in the search window. Disabled it and enabled Google. for some reason the startsearch is set as default and will not let me change it. I went to the manage your add-ons and the remove button is faded out, can't click on it. Not liking it there. Should I try to get rid of it or is it not hurting anything?

    So one problem solved and now for another, startsearcher is not good news either. Please try the below. (Scroll down until you see the "Fix it" button and give it a go. Let me know if startsearcher has now gone.)

    • Download SystemLook.exe and Double-click SystemLook.exe to run it.
    • Copy the content of the following codebox into the main textfield:
      Code:
      :regfind
      startsearcher*

    • Click the Look button to start the scan.
    • When finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan. Please post this log in your next reply.
    Note: The log can also be found on your Desktop entitled SystemLook.txt

    Ran the SystemLook. It logged no startsearcher. I am not going to attach the log as it seems to be gone, that is unless you want to see it. :)

    I restarted the computer, checked ie and was able to set google as default and remove startsearcher.

    I think these beasts are finally conquered. Could not have accomplished this without your valuable assistance. Thank you for being here and giving of your advice.

    It's fine. We host it here at Majorgeeks.

    Well then, that's looking like we are ready to wrap up at last! Glad you are sorted. :)

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
      related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
        for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
