Faster Ping/ Connection?

at home i play alot of counterstrike (online game). sometimes i dont get a good ping in some servers and i was wondering if there was any way of making it faster/ better. i always shut down all the programs that i dont need, even the ones in the task manager. is there any possible way to make my conection faster or better?

Pentium 4
2.39 GHz
512 MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 <-----CRAP

pnutter what kind of pings are you getting? i play or used to play alot of CS so i can sympathize with you about the pings... your best bet is to find servers that are located in your tri state area... i live on the East Coast so i usually search for servers in that area... of course with STEAM you can just use your filter and add the servers with the lowest pings to your favorites list...

any ping under 100 ms is quite playable...

 

im getting about 80-120 ping but everyone i playwith gets like 20-30. i dont know why. i want a 20 ping.http://www.majorgeeks.com/vb/images/icons/icon10.gif

you can try optimizing your TCP settings, you MIGHT get a little gain out of that.

head on over to http://www.dslreports.com/tools and do a speed test to see where you're at now (approximately). Then run the tweak test, and, with the info they give you, run Doctor TCP and adjust your settings accordingly...


run another speed test and see if you have any improvement (you may also run DR Ping before and after for a more realisting speed test)

there are tons of tools that help optimize your TCP settings, this is just one way... might be worth a shot
