Don't believe everything you read on the internet! This sounds like a trick! Where do you encounter this message?

I would be seriously surprised if your Windows 7 computer was actually running on FAT32. That technology is OLD! Also, it is not a file per se, but a File SYSTEM. If you really had FAT troubles, you would have major problems with running your computer system.

Can we check something to be sure? Please do the following:

    1. Click the start orb
    2. In the Search/Run bar at the bottom, type 'diskmgmt.msc' (without the quotes) and press Enter
    3. Post a screenshot of the 'Computer Management' window.

Here's what mine looks like. I am trying to confirm that your computer is using the NTFS file system (it should be). Notice how it says so right beside the size of my hard drives? I'm hoping yours appear the same. If it does, then you can probably safely ignore whatever messages you are seeing. :) (And shame on your tech for not knowing better, and for causing you to lose data!)

I hope the tech informed you that you would lose everything.
I'm also surprised he didn't offer to back up your important files.

I've never restored/formatted someones HDD without either verifying with them there's nothing important OR offering to back up their stuff.

As for the problems, I agree with Mada at this point.
