Yes, it's a type of music we don't get to hear much. I used to go to a Blues Festival in another town I lived and besides the blues as everyone is familiar with they had dixieland, cajun, gospel it was great.

 

What genre of music does this come under? Is it Cajun? Dixieland? I've never really heard this type of music before. It reminds me a lot of Irish folk music, which I dig. Gotta delve deeper into this. Any good sites I can visit for more?

 

Cajun, Irish folk is where bluegrass came from I'll see if I can find more, Augie is the music buff here

Not a great fan of Rory Gallagher, I'm afraid. More the traditional side of Irish folk, like The Pogues, or The Waterboys. (I think it's maybe a genetic thing as my surname is Irish, McGuinness, originally from County Monaghan). Loved the Sesame Street item, however. The guy singing in that piece had a voice like a goose farting in the fog, but it just sounded right, do you know what I mean? Going to start researching this music. Thanks for the pointer, D.

 

Carnival ended today at midnite. Oh boy, do I remember the (southern) Dutch tradition of 3-4 days of celebration. Pure madness. :-D Even babies get dressed up in costumes. A 3 day hangover is nothing to sneeze at.

Well it seem a couple of (can't think of what to call them, idiot or jerk is not strong enough) shot some people including a toddler. No one was killed, thank goodness for that.

I'm here darlin' Darlene. I'll sum up a bit of history. The Brits forcibly moved the French Acadian(Nova Scotia today) populace en masse to Louisiana when it was still part of France and they of course brought their culture with them. The music was already heavily influenced by the Irish and the Scotts. Then mix in the black slave labour songs and it has evolved into what we hear today.

This site has original songs though they're done in midi format but you get the essence. Here's a real oldie from LA for comparison.
