    I am trying to fix my sister-n-laws laptop. She has a Dell Inspiron 1750 with Windows 7 installed. When she tries to boot it up she gets....

    STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
    The verification of knownDLL failed. system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000221 (0x000d55b0 0x00000000).
    The system has been shut down.

    Will a restore CD fix this or is it just dead?

    You can try to run a repair install from the DVD but, you may find the reason for the fatal error here.

    Will this work on Windows 7? It says Windows XP, but she is running Windows 7. I am not sure if there is enough difference to matter.

    Just under the article headline that mdonah linked to:
    Sorry but I didn't see XP referenced in the article. Not sure where you saw "Windows XP" mentioned.

    All of the "KB" updates that Microsoft issues have several versions for the several versions of Windows. The version I linked you to is specifically for Win 7. I had to hunt it down because many of the search results for your BSOD fatal error were for XP.

    I have not had this particular error myself but, I haven't installed the update mentioned.
