LMAO. "It's your Firewall, or Anti Virus program, clashing with our broadband".
That was Bigpond's reply when she was using Zone Alarm Free and AVG, or Zone Alarm Free and Avast.

Must be millions of people using those combinations, and another ISP's Broadband, without troubles.

I wondered if it could be Bigpond.;) :p :D Ha ha. Bazza

if your reffering to my thread, theres a reason i posted that, its becuase if he is hosting professional sites, and he doesn't have a professional or get it resolved quickly his site is gonna be blacklisted very quick and that is much greater issue. Thus making my comment very valid.

Was another quote by you, with regards to servers

We know you run a server Colemanguy, but most of us are here to help, with any knowledge we have, Mada Milty also runs a server and is always willing to help out his fellow Geeks.

Saying leave it to the professionals is exactly what Major Software firms have said to us for years, thus the founding of Major Geeks and other sites.

Like it says in the sticky if you can offer advise do so, if you can't or don't want to, leave well enough alone

Side Note:- Some of us have said a version of the quotes in this thread in the past, but you do not find us "Challenging" the person for posting them, that was not the threads intent.

yep one of my favorites. makes you wonder if the people who answer with that one actually use linux. I use it and would NEVER suggest it to someone who doesn't at least have a moderate amount of computer knowledge and about 5hours a week to spare repairing it when the latest and greatest updates break it. In saying that I do like linux and it does MAKE you learn a lot about how an OS works

My two favorite 'unhelpful' answers (not just here, but in many other computer-related forums as well)...

Whenever someone posts nothing but: "You might try Google..."

Another equally irritating response: "I don't have a clue what the answer is, but..." (usually followed by a long-winded, useless and totally unrelated diatribe about the perils of using that type of program or hardware and/or using it with a Microsoft OS)

    Good Luck!

    Get rid of Norton...

Yeah, I know, I know! But if someone just paid a huge amount to Symantec, they might actually be more interested in getting their money's worth than to chuck it out in favour of a free program. :)

well, this is not exactly on topic, but I have noticed there are something like time frames within which softwares are compatible. My computer is an XP SP2 but quite old by computer life standards, and some of the software developed around the time it came out or shortly thereafter works better than the more recent softwares. Since I don't have time to figure out why, I tend to just go with what works.

So many of my favorite answers are in this thread. I love it.

I really love when people bash the products that you chose to use, in short telling you that you are ignorant since you don't use what ever obscure software package they use. I may bash Micro$oft on a constant basis, but I still have XP installed on my home computer and I still use it. Crappy or not, it is the best thing out there for a lot of people.

All these answers are probably why the malware forum threads are locked to a certain extent. :) A fact that I am constantly glad of when I have to visit there.

My personal favorite is from another board where I asked for help on something and one of the admins deleted the thread after telling me I should have read the FAQ. Even though I went through the FAQ step by step and it made matters worse. And I detailed what I had done and what steps caused what issues. Guess he meant the "other" FAQ with all the correct steps. :)
