I'm sorry, could someone explain this to me ...my little pea brain can't quite get around this one ...generic/high watts vs. brand name/low watts???

Does this mean a generic puts out only what a brand name puts out even if it's different wattages?

    Where's my tester ????

Well, BC ....actually that was the way I used to test 120 volt circuits thumb and index finger ...small tingle ...yep, It's live.

Now the 240 stuff, I had an old screw driver ...depending on the amps of the circuit, we'd take bets on how far it would knock it across the room ..lol.

    System won't boot .... try running ad-aware.

(And yes, BC ...that would explain the avatar!!!)

Perhaps related is when one is attempting to fix a user's issue, and then finally the OP states they fixed the issue, but never explains what they did to fix it.

Ran into this one today, and I hate to say it but it was here on MG, just a reminder peeps, some sarcastic help is no help at all.

I think there may be a way to get around it, but it may not be worth the effort.

I ran into these at a different forum board, and it is no wonder why I don't ask for help there anymore.

"Format and reinstall you f***ing n00b and quit wasting our time." After I told this person that wasn't an option, "Sucks to be you." (I still wonder what was so important about this person's time...)

"Throw that piece of s**t in the trash and buy a real computer" (said to an Apple owner)

"Mabe if u weren't so ignerint, u wuldn't have ishus." (I just loved this one)

Hey Burning Monkey with those three I think you've found the winners......The last one is totally priceless the person can't spell and can't give advice. I wonder if he/she can spell "Idiot":D

that last one is priceless. its such a shame when people behave in this way. it blackens everybody's name. when i reccomend MG to other people, i often get replies like "stay away from all those people". "the geeks are the worst ones". "if you sign on to geek sites they just scr*w with you",and "the geeks are the ones who are causing all the problems, they think its funny to mess you up"
i always defend this site and cant understand why some of my friends feel this way. it doesn't really register with me that there are hundreds of 'geek' sites and if the above are real quotes, i can see why people would be reticent about opening themselves to that kind of verbal abuse, and the possibility that people on these sites can somehow 'get into' your puter and damage/distroy it.
my particular 'piece of sh*t' may not be the biggest, bestest puter in the world, but i had to save hard to get it, (and by 'save' i mean go without a great many things for a very long time) and is as valuable a piece of equipment as any faster, better, geekier one.
i feel blessed by running into this site first, (the devil might be in the machinery, but GOD LOVES ME lol) and i would therefore like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all on this site, hard-core geeks and newbies alike, for not only being considerate, helpful, and welcoming, but also for laying a standard for others to aspire to. mahalo nui loa, (thank you very much)

Great post laurieB, I think it is the one we should always keep in our hearts, its too easy at times to see a post and say to ones self sheesh is that person dumb or what, we sometimes too quickly forget that we asked the same dumb questions, when we first started. I know I did, and can remember the many who helped and the few who just dripped sarcasm with their posts.

Thanks laurieB for the post and reminding me.

I'm in a writing group, and I learned, partly by watching, that the critiquing requires as much care as the writing itself, and that it also takes time and experience to get better at it.

yeah, I recomend this site to ever one and if there is any bad talking of my fellow geeks here, I lay down a reality check.

The guys/girls in the Malware forum are so professional that it would make up for anything else ever in my opinion. Although I do feel like I am abusing their good nature and free advice with my constant threads :)

My all time fav threads and a few replies, I still LMAO with tears running down my face when I read the thread again.

Thread went like this on overclocking ( partisipants did do this a year or so ago, so are now most likely more brainy than me, well apart from one!! )
and the final post from someone who knows what he's doing
I couldnt reply in that thread for laughing so much, not the fact of not knowing what to do as we all learn but the way things were said.

Not an unhelpful answer in a thread, but this was said to me by Gateway Tech Support this weekend trying to resolve issues with my lappy, and made me laugh....

Star, this was a really funny post, but why does the link lead to a single post rather than the thread? I tried taking the post 9 out of the adddress, but it was still only a single post.
