favorites links not working

I am running ie7 and XP sp3.

Got the AV Sec Suite virus and went through the whole malware removal/xp cleaning procedure and seemed like things are better -- haven't used it much since yet, and in trying to do so, discovered my favorites links are no longer working.

In ie7 when I click the star, my favorites list shows up but when I click on one, nothing. I can go to properties and copy and paste the url to my browser bar and it will go. If I click favorites on the menu bar and then a favorite in the list I get a box that says:

file download -- security warning
Do you want to save or run this file?

At which point I cancel. Is my virus not all gone or has something been misdirected in the registry? Or something else I can't even conceive of?

The smartest thing I've done is to set a restore point once I finished running all the malware removal/xp cleanup. Didn't do the toggle because not sure it's completely okay until I work with it some and the part about "an infected restore point could be better than none at all."

Anyway, went back to that restore point and it seems to be working now. Don't know what in the heck I could have done to screw it up, but I'll take it for now.
