From what I've seen to date this year, these have been my favourite movies (not in order of preference):

    2017:
    • Dunkirk
    • King Arthur: Legend of the Sword
    • Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
    • Kong: Skull Island
    • Wonder Woman
    • War for the Planet of the Apes
    • Beauty and the Beast
    Oldest favourite:
Some Like It Hot (reckon it is my all time favourite - Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemon, Tony Curtis, Joe Brown) saw it on TV the other night and it never gets old for me...still chuckle throughout.

    Hey LS

Always good to see you! :)

    My favorites so far:
    Wonder Woman
    Baby Driver
    Get Out
    Spider Man
Gifted (which I missed in the theater and just saw streaming...great movie)

I want to see Dunkirk and Planet of the Apes as well!

Old movie we just watched that held up and is so hillarious...."My Cousin Vinny"

G'day Laura, by the way, [late] Congrats! on your 25th Wedding Anniversary...sounds like you had a fabulous time of it...

Saw "Get Out"...that was a good movie...quite a twister. Also saw latest "Spider Man" and that actually was good too...forgot to note it
"My Cousin Vinny" is a great oldie...never tire watching it...funny stuff.
Around here they show main stream movies, so don't get much time to go south side over the bridge for foreign or non-main stream shows.

Recently had a film festival in Sydney and got invited to advance screening of a Swedish "Sami Blood" highlighting class distinctions, Sweden’s colonial oppression of the indigenous Sami folk who were subject to racial biology exams, the children moving into puberty openly poked, prodded while exposed to prying eyes and measured like prize cattle. Thought provoking and disturbing to see not only the Nazis who practiced genetic theories.

Good to see someone (yourself) from the "old" days still about.

    Cheers

    LS

He he I haven't seen any movies this year. The last one I did go to see was one of those Harry Potter things and I fell asleep in the theater. It was the biggest waste of $10 in a long time!

I don't go to many movies. I am a avid reader and if I am going to see a movie I prefer to read the book first if there is a book. Often the movie is nothing like the book which can be a disappointing. Of course some movies are scripts written for making a movie so totally different experience.
Anyway as for old movies I liked that I had not read the book first and did not know anything about before viewing "A Beautiful Mind" kept me interested threw the whole movie.

I enjoy both - movies and books.

Dad was a bit of a "movie buff" so it was off to the movies every Saturday evening (his form of relaxation)...hence my taste.

Books I love and have an extensive library, and share your views that sometimes movies lose what a book offers.

Always enjoy our Russell Crowe movies (we claim him even though he was born in New Zealand), same goes for "A Beautiful Mind"

Godfather - the whole lot just loved.
Heat - if you're referring to the one with that incredible duo Al Pacino, Robert De Niro - that was a great one! and if you meant...
The Heat - funny with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, enjoyed that one also.
Goodfellas - brutal, realistic to that dark side of the world...great acting, did enjoy that also
Casino - true Martin Scorsese film...he goes to a lot of trouble with his story lines

I actually saw "The Conjuring" alone in our movie theatre (morning show during the week) and my ice cream melted because I was so focused....later saw a follow up "Conjuring" movie on TV alone in the dark at home which had me jump a few times...felt sorry for my cat who at each instance upon being rudely awoken, jumped with his fur raised, startled and not quite knowing whether to fight or fly...:p

I have never been to the mountains in upper New York where the location is portrayed but most of the movie was filmed in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina which is a beautiful place.

A movie that still puts a smile on my face is one from my childhood.
My grandmother used to take me, my brothers and sister to see The Great Race whenever it was showing in the cinemas. I must have seen it a dozen times over the years. Starring Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis it was a very funny film about a race across three continents.

Some other films I like (in no particular order) are:
    Johnny Mnemonic
    The Island
    I Am Number Four
    Leon The Professional
    Blazing Saddles
    Minority Report
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
    The Jewel Of The Nile
    Predator (the Arnold Schwarzenegger one)
    The Skeleton Key
    Soylent Green
    The Andromeda Strain
    The Omega Man
    Oblivion
    Total Recall

    some film series
    Matrix Series
    Harry Potter Series
    Lord of The Rings Series
    The Hobbit Series
    The Star Wars Series
    The Jurassic Park Series
    James Bond Series
    The Jason Bourne Series
The Raiders of The Lost Ark Series
    Lara Croft Series
    Pirates of The Caribbean Series

Oh Yeah! Brilliant movie..that slapstick pie throwing segment is fabulous with Jack Lemon's drunken antics, and Tony Curtis with that sparkle..

Classics! Anything of Mel Brooks is hilarious...Saddles "airy" campfire scene broke all sorts of boundaries (including sound barrier:D)

    Ditto on...

    The Star Wars Series
    The Jurassic Park Series
    James Bond Series
    The Jason Bourne Series
The Raiders of The Lost Ark Series
    Pirates of The Caribbean Series
