I have a Dell Laptop running Win XP

The issue is, i get the FBI moneypak virus screen on my laptop. I then can't boot in safe mode. I've read serveral threads where the mods say to try the this Kaspersky boot disc resolution for this issue. So i tried copying the kaspersky boot disc to my USB flash drive and it says I've successfully created the rescue disc. I then go onto my infected computer and chang the boot order so that USB is first in line. then when i reboot with the flash drive in i get an error "No bootable partition in table"

I have deleted and re-copied this rescue disc from scratch like 5 times... and get the success message EVERY time. I am at a loss for what to do. PLease help!

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Sounds like your USB drive was not made bootable. Like no boot record...etc.

Try making a bootable CD version instead and boot from CD.

what about using a different USB drive? i have several. is there any way to view the usb drive's properties or something to see if it is bootable?

I only ask cuz i'm not so good at burning discs... ugh. thoughts?

If you followed the instructions properly that they gave for setting this up, then it should have created a boot USB drive. You could try another but it could be that you are doing something wrong or your PC cannot boot from a USB.

I find bootable CD easier to make and typically more reliable.

Question: If you try booting in Safe Mode with Command Prompt does that get you to a command prompt?

    • Since you can get a command prompt:
      • then type explorer.exe in the command prompt and see if the Windows Start button now shows up with the Taskbar.
      • If it does, then click Start , Run and type msconfig into the Run box and click okay.
      • In MSconfig click on the Startup tab and then select click the Disable All button to disable all startups.
      • Then click Apply and OK.
      • Then allow the PC to reboot and see if you can boot in normal mode now.
      • If you can then try to run the below:

Well, i got the command prompt and typed in explorer.exe instead of a start button with task bar it gave me a window that has my desktop. I located Malwarebytes and am running a scan on the system as we speak.. I will let you know what happens

I ran the scan, 3 items were found, a couple of Trojan horses... I removed them and restarted the machine in normal mode, and i'm getting an all white screen that says this page can't display a webpage. Any suggestions now?

Ok.. I think there is some confusion here. Remember, i can't boot up the pc in any mode other than command prompt, or i get a white screen that says no webpage available. When i do the command prompt boot up, and type explorer.exe, it doesn't give me a start menu or anything, it just puts me into a folder that accesses my desktop, etc. i can't get the internet open from there to download any of the SW that is in the Malware Removal guide.

So I'm stuck. i don't know what else to do.

es I mistunderstood what you said.

If you type C:\windows\regedit.exe at the command prompt does the Windows Registry Editor open.

DO you mean Windows Explorer opened to this folder or do you just mean the command prompt box shows you are in the Desktop folder?

What happens if you type C:\Windows\explorer.exe

Also if you type the below does MSconfig open:

    C:\WINDOWS\pchealth\helpctr\binaries\msconfig.exe

ok, so i used that last suggestion and it opened the MSconfig and i was able to restore my computer to an earlier session! thank you VERY much. i'm going to now spend the next several hours downloading anti-malware and other antivirus SW...
