FBI virus

I have a computer that is infected with the FBI virus. I tried running some various programs from a flashdrive or CD, but was not successful.

I found a major geeks thread that had the first steps for diagnosis, so I ran the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool from a USB drive and attached the file to this post.

Thanks in advance for looking at this.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system

    Attached is fixlist.txt
    • Save fixlist.txt to your flash drive.
    • You should now have both fixlist.txt and FRST.exe on your flash drive.

    Now re-enter System Recovery Options.
Run FRST and press the Fix button just once and wait.
The tool will make a log on the flashdrive (Fixlog.txt).

Now are you able to work your way through this? :)

I ran fixlist as directed and attached fixlog.txt.
I tried booting, but still get the FBI screen in normal mode.
I am able to boot into safemode with networking and I'm working through the "Read and Run Me First" steps.

I was able to run the full "Read and Run Me First" procedures and it appears that the computer is running well now.

I've attached the logs for review just in case.

I followed all the instructions except inadvertently created the MB log before clicking "Remove Selected." It says "No Action Taken" but I did remove the 3 detected items including Trojan.Winlock.Gen.

Otherwise, everything seemed to run correctly.
    Thanks.

Is there any reason why you ran tools in safe mode? What happens when you try to boot normally?

Re run Hitman Pro and have it remove the Potential Unwanted Program. (Babylon item)

Please let Mozilla Firefox update to the current version.

Unless you set these restrictions yourself please have HijackThis fix them:

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    • O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
    • O6 - HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

I had to run in safe mode because I still got the FBI screen in normal mode. I mentioned that in the short post before running the cleanup steps. Running Fixlist did make safe mode possible so that I could finally run the steps.

I followed all your steps with the exception of Hitman Pro. It shows trial expired and won't delete. It appears that Babylon was just an empty folder and I deleted that from Programdata. Hitman Pro did not detect Babylon on a subsequent scan.

Is there a way to remove Hitman Pro so that it is available again if needed?

    Thanks

    We don't need Hitman now.

I want you to run FRST in normal mode please, if the FBI virus is still active. Attach the log once done.

The computer is behaving normally and no signs of the FBI virus after running "Read and Run Me First" a few days ago.

I did run FRST and attached the files.

If all looks good then I will do the final cleanup steps.

Hi, still a little remains. :(

    Attached is fixlist.txt
    • Save fixlist.txt to your flash drive.
    • You should now have both fixlist.txt and FRST.exe on your flash drive.

The tool will make a log on the flashdrive (Fixlog.txt).
Please attach this to your next message. (How to attach)

Now run FRST once more, (just a scan) and attach that log too.

I ran FRST in recovery mode, but fixlog.txt shows that it did not delete the key and said it should be fixed outside recovery mode.

I ran FRST in normal mode and fixlog2.txt shows the key deleted.

I ran FRST in normal mode and did a scan, and the key is no longer present in FRST.txt.

    Thanks

    Excellent. :)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others) and running MGclean.bat did not remove them, you can delete these files now.
    7. If you are running Win 8, Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below to flush restore points:
      • Refer to the instructions for your WIndows version in this link: Disable And Enable System Restore
      • What we want you to do is to first disable System Restore to flush restore points some of which could be infected.
      • Then we want you to Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
