FDisk/clean install

Am trying to format my C Drive to reinstall XP Pro that has become corrupt. Tried the repair outfit prog but didn't work. I boot from the A drive and type fdisk at the A prompt and I get no where. Have made a boot disk and I suspect there is no fdisk on the bootable floppy, if this is the case where could I get one to put along side in the start up disk.

Your XP Pro cd is bootable. Just boot to it, and it will give you the option of partitioning/formatting the drive, during the install.

 

Or you can go to www.bootdisk.com to get what you need.

Apparently those discs are not bootable if you buy the OEM version with a piece of hardware

And if you go to bootdisc.com, be prepared to download a HUGE program to your harddrive that will have to be installed to 6 floppy discs. I found this out the hard way after I had reformatted my C: drive and could not boot off the Pro CD. Thank goodness I had brat boy's ...uh....379's computer working.

I managed to get hold of a 'Autoexec' disk and performed fdisk and the consequence of that was I got meself in a right mess deleting partition, ended up with 2 drives and lost the C: NTFS which turned into partition 1 , so after many hairs coming out by the roots i went back and tried from the XP Instalation disk and lo and behold this time it worked and was able to format and reinstall succesfully. All I have to do now is find an alternative to Executive diskeeper(Fat file deragger) Thanks to one and all.
