I few days ago I bought Final Fantasy XIV MMORPG, Well I installed it and updated it and was thinking Id get to play soon.....wrong. When I start it up it checks the version just fine but when it starts to go to the login screen I get a webpage error. I get the same thing when I try to go to the account site for square enix as well https://secure.square-enix.com/account/

I would just like to finally be able to play the game after 3 - 4 days of fighting with this. Ive been told its either possibly IE or my modem/router. Since it will start up but yet once it gets ready to display the login I get the webpage error.

    Things I have tried:
    Restart modem/router
    unplug the replug modem/router
    lower security
    add sites to allowed sites
Ive attempted port forwarding not sure if it even set up right for sure
Turned off my firewall on my PC

Also my specs if they will help any:

    OS: Windows 7 64bit
    RAM: GSkill Ripjaw 4 x 4G (16G)
    GPU: Sapphire HD 5870
    Modem: Paradyne 6381-a3-200
    Router: Linksys WRT54GS2
Browser: IE8 (already tried IE9, same error)

If anyone might be able to fix it through remote let me know I'm willing to try that as well.

Is the firewall in your router configured to let FFIVX through without putting up a fight? If not, see to that before you do anything else.

I am thinking that may be the issue, I thought I had port forwarded it, but it seems to not have worked like it was suppost to. Also came to remember the paradyne modem we have also has a firewall when I connected it directly to a laptop to try to access the same site for FFXIV the site I mentioned and the login for the game run on the same place so since the login + the account site doesnt load on any computer or browser it is more then likely still the firewall either on the modem or both modem and router. Ive actually been looking for a way to get directly in the paradyne modem to work with the firewal on it to see. Its 6211-I1-200 ADSL2+ Router from what CD was given to us but yet the sticker on bottom claims it to be a 6381-A3-200 ADSL2+ Router. I looked on the site but from what I read it more likely to be the first one (6211-I1-200 ADSL2+ Router)

is there a certain way to get into the modem, I read something on telnet. I need to get to the modems firewall i believe not the routers. I'm assuming i need to be connect directly to the modem also.

I was hoping someone else would see this thread and reply to you... routers and modems are not my specialty. :p I'll try to find information for you if you post the exact model of your modem though.

Alternatively, you can repeat your question in MGs networking forum. :)

its a Paradyne 6211-I1 ADSL2+ Router our ISP claims it has no firewall. Its also been suggested that some of the ports might be closed. So my question would be if there is no firewall how would I get into the modem to open the ports so everything can get through? Sorry it took so long to reply but we lost the internet (no surprize as it happens often sometimes)

thanks for the guide, yea its a modem problem we are thinking. I've tried suggestions I have goten from a few people on my other post and still nothing. I'm leaning towards it being a modem problem so the guide will definately help, thanks again.
