Why is it always to the bitter end? Why not the good end? The [very old] fight between Linux and Windows supporters flared up and disappeared as quickly as it came. Everyone went away slightly bruised, still upholding their determined opinions. Nothing was resolved. It will be a wonderful outlet for bashing again in couple of months.

    Windows/Linux, Palestinians/Jews, North/South, Communists/Capitalists

The arguments are all in place. Damage is done. People hurt. They "Why don't they understand me when I'm so obviously right, believe me, accept me?" They brush themselves off and pretend nothing happened.

Truely successful fighting issues are the ones which have clearly defined sides. They can go on for years, decades, millenia ...

Why are they not resolved? What options are there to getting more good and less bitter out of such successful fighting issues? More progress and less destruction? Are the fighting issues left to the powerless so they will continue forever?

Delusions are strongly held ideas that cannot be changed even when faced with overwhelming evidence against them. However if others share the same ideas they become beliefs. Beliefs bind us. They are rigidly held by nature. Believers also want to get others to believe in their beliefs.

Beliefs are good and bad. Bad when they are used to manipulate other for personal power. They have us play follow the leader. For the most part the quality of our leaders and their motivations determine whether we are lead to a good or bitter end. An alternative is people power such as this forum.

This is all too esoteric so I have written a programme to improve the world.

Very valid, and 'age old' points that you raise here abri!

I can offer no solution, if i could, i'd be richer than Bill.
Having said that, i only know that this has been the way of the human race since the dawn of time, and probably will continue till the end of time for our race as we know it.

In the words of James Hetfield (Metallica)....sad but true!

In that case acceptance is the real enemy. People wear shoes today. Change for the better is worth working for.

The reason believers want agreement from non-believers or other-believers is because their beliefs don't hold up.

You cannot change inbuilt human nature...we all want a better existence, but you are kidding yourself if you think that working at this will achieve an end result....you justify this in your OP!

We will always have our own opinions and our love to express them, however what we say and what we do, are totally different in all facets including Politics, religion and life!
Why do politicians lie?, why does religion cause world unrest? why do i prefer windows over linux?

Merely hoping that change for the better is worth working for is a fools paradise IMHO!

On an idividual basis, we all have our experience of being .....I "am" ...which we interpret/ assign opinions about .....
Then there is "human nature" were we crave companionship/family/a sense of belonging ....ergo people of similar opinions ....which unfortunately takes on a community ethos of I/we are "right" ....
At which point, we have now created a false concept that our "rightness" should be universal ...
There is no right or wrong ....there's just "isness".

For the most part such arguments are simply a matter of opinion. In the world we live we have free choice - for example you can use Windows or Linux if you want to. You can wear a rainbow coloured hat if you want to.

Politicians make sides so that they can grab the preferred opinion of as many people as possible - that's what gets them votes. Whether that has anything to do with what everyone as a whole wants is irrelevant. People who are seen to support free choice are seen as floppy (usually because they get boxed into a corner and say something that contradicts what they've said before). To make matters worse, the people who vote are the ones with strong opinions who don't want someone who will support both sides of the argument.

As for OS choice - saying that everyone should use Linux or Windows is like saying everyone should use spanners. Just because it does what YOU want it to doesn't mean that everyone else has the same needs!

And this is why I will never make a politician :D

They were so strong in their beliefs that there came a time when it hardly mattered what exactly those beliefs were; they all fused into a single stubbornness.

Hate and ignorance are bred into generations of children and to stand up and say "Why do I hate them again?" is not even considered in some societies for fear of being shunned or even put to death. You would need whole generations of people to agree that this is ludicrous and then tell THEIR children this is so before anything will change.

Something to always remember is some beliefs/ethic systems are so antisocial (dare I say it, evil) that their right to exist conflicts with ours. Nazies come to mind, or maybe Stalinist Communism. Every society has to have some kind of standards, a line that says "No Further!" Without this line (in that they are willing to tolerate everything) they are going to be bullied, abused, and possibly wiped out by another society whose line is way past our definition of reasonable.

As long as we have more than 1 society I think conflicts (which is not necessarily the same as war) are inevitable.

I think the current Jahidist Islamist Fudementalist movement falls within the above definition. They would like to claim to represent all of Islam, while in fact being a very obnoxious minority, but they are willing to kill as many people as they can to get their way. Assuming they are defeated and disappear there will always be someone with something to replace them.
