File Recovery, following HD crash

My power supply failed, and may have been the cause of my old Hard Drive not being able to boot properly....it just kept cycling. I installed a new HD, and used the Recovery CD's to reinstall the system. I can go into Windows Explorer, and see the old HD fine. I run Windows XP Home Edition, and can see my wifes files, my 3 sons files just fine. When I try and go into My Documents, I get a message..."Access is Denied". I had my account on XP, passworded. Is there any way possible, to get by this password, so I can recover my files? I have an HP 3.06 ghz puter, about 3 years old. The old HD was a 250 gig model. If unable to recover My Documents, I'll have lost my youngest son's senior basketball pics, all my farm related spreadsheets, and some music, which isn't all that important. I would love to save the pics though. Please help, if at all possible. Thank you.
