File Sharing Between Winvista And Win10 Computer

I have an Archer C7 router that is currently connected to an HP Win10 computer, an Acer Win10 computers, a wireless Win7 laptop, and to the internet via a cable modem. I also have a WinVista computer that is currently not connected to anything except a monitor and a scanner. The WinVista computer has CorelDraw 12 installed on it.

I would like to use the WinVista computer to open a Corel file from the HP Win10 computer, make some changes to the file, and then save it back to the HP Win10 computer.

Where can I find instructions for connecting those two computers? (The WinVista computer does not seem to have what I need, and I do not want to connect it to the internet.)

Have you enabled file and printer sharing in the Vista m/c and shared the folders you want to access on the HP with Read and Write permissions for Everyone?

EDIT "Have you enabled file and printer sharing in the Vista m/c and shared the folders you want to access on the HP with Read and Write permissions for Everyone?"

Should have read "Have you enabled file and printer sharing on both machines and shared the folders you want to access on the HP with Read and Write permissions for Everyone?"

    Apologies

No I haven't yet. Still trying to figger out how to connect the WinVista computer to the two wired computers and not attempt to go out to the internet.

A cable from my internet supplier attaches to my Arris cable modem. From the modem the signal goes to an Archer AC1750 router. The router is hardwired to the HP Win10 computer and the Acer Win10 computers, and the laptop utilizes a wireless connection.

I'm afraid that if I connect the WinVista computer to the router something in that computer will go out to the internet and look for a Windows update or something like that. I don't want that to happen and I don't know how to prevent it from happening.

Guess I don't know very much... but I'm a-tryin'!

Sneaker net!!! Don't connect the computers. Copy the file from the Win 10 computer to a USB stick. Carry the stick over to the Vista computer and open it with Corel. Make the required changes and save it to the USB stick with a different name so you don't get the files confused.
Take the USB stick out of the Vista computer, insert it in the Windows 10 computer and copy the revised file to the desktop.
Open it and see if it is what you need. If so, delete the old file from the Win 10 computer and use the revised file in its place.

We do this all the time with databases on a Win 7 and XP computer. We print from the XP computer not connected to the network at all. Our computers are also not shared. I don't want some malware traveling from one computer to another.

I'm afraid you're right about not connecting the computers. I've been using the USB stick to transfer files in the past and just thought how nice it would be to do without that.

Plodr's method obviously works but how tiresome! I would suggest you set up Vista in a virtual machine on the Win 10 system. Then it's simple to do exactly what you want. I have Vista set up in a VM using VMWare Workstation Player - free and works perfectly.

Can't do. That means installing Corel on the Win10 computer. I've done that before, but had nothing but problems while working with CorelDraw 12 so I gave up on that idea.

And I've had countless number of problems trying to use the WinVista computer with an internet connection. So I disconnected the Vista computer from the internet, reinstalled the Vista operating system on it, and installed Corel and a couple other programs on it. So far Corel runs fine on it.

Wrong, you install Corel in the Vista virtual machine on the Win 10 system.

Okay, I understand now, and I appreciate your suggestion!
I've worked with PCs since they came out in 1981, and I'm just getting too old and cranky to create virtual machines on my computer, so I think I'll pass on your suggestion.

That's a shame but I won't try to dissuade you.

    Transfer the files via Bluetooth.
A Bluetooth dongle for the WinVista PC might be needed.
