Alright so i got a 200Mb avi file , which i made a clip using sony vegas that is the first 35 seconds of this... the file dint take long at all to render and was 131MB big! i am extremely confused on how a 35 second avi clip coming from a 200mb file that is like 20minutes long can be more then half of its size.

The thing is converted the clip to go on my mp3 which needs to be mpg.. and the file is only 3mb.

How is this all make sense -_- rolleyes

I'm confused with some of what you said.....
Which file is 3mb? I'm confused. Regardless... the reason the Vegas clip is so large is due to the codec they used. Instead of using Vegas, edit your clip from the original 200mb file using VirtualDub (it's free), and if it's too big, run it thru Dr. DivX which allows you to set custom file output sizes. So you could shrink it a bit. I've used it to compress a 1.2gb video file to 700mb so it would fit on a CD and it did it perfectly with no loss in quality. Here's some links:
    Virtual Dub http://www.majorgeeks.com/VirtualDub__d5523.html
    Dr. Divx http://www.majorgeeks.com/Dr._DivX_d5208.html
However, this will leave the clip in DivX (AVI) format. There are MANY free programs that will convert it into an MPEG. If you have Nero, it will do it too.... Here at MajorGeeks, two programs come to mind:
    Media Coder http://www.majorgeeks.com/MediaCoder_d4987.html
    SUPER http://www.majorgeeks.com/Super_d5117.html
    Good luck!

EDIT: A bit more looking around here at Major Geeks found this http://www.majorgeeks.com/Kates_Video_Cutter__d5680.html It allows you to cut a peice from a video, and save it as the same or a DIFFERENT format. Should be just what you're looking for. ;)

You don't mention what your Operating System is.
If it is either XP or Vista, you already have a utility called "Movie Maker" that is able to adjust the size of your movie files. (Start>Programs>Accessories>Movie Maker)
This program allows you to edit your movie, add some basic effects and then save in a variety of sizes by altering the bitrate. I use it to compress MPG files that start at upwards of a GB into a more manageable 20 MB for posting on the web.
The only drawbacks are that the output is a .wmv file,
(Windows media player plays these files but not all players do) and the maximum output size is 640 x 480.

Sounds to me like Vegas produced an uncompressed wav audio file and thats whats making the whole thing so big, the audio. I often repair avi files that have VBR audio by converting the audio first to uncompressed wav and then back to mp3 or ac3, I do the dual conversion in order to keep the audio/video in sync. If I were to extract an ac3 file from a 700mb avi it would be about 20mb, but that same audio file extracted as an uncompressed wav would be over 200mb. Does 10x the size seem like your problem? Open your 131mb file with GSpot Codec Appliance and see what the audio is.
