    Hi,

An AIDA32 report of my sys specs is attached.

I'm just wondering if anyone can help me. When my sys starts up, if it sits on the welcome screen for any length of time, I get an error message saying "Could not find the file swflash.ocx". I've seen the error message from within XP also, but not for sometime. I'm not sure what is taking place that is triggering the error or how to fix the file.

Oh and just so you know, I'm not much a whiz at any of this stuff.

    Thanks in advance!
    Shanna

Have you uninstalled Macromedia Flash Player?

If so you could try reinstalling it then uninstalling it by following this.

It might fix it by just following the uninstall guide.

If you use flash player though try reinstalling it.

    Hi,

Thanks for that. I gave uninstalling and reinstalling a try from the links you gave me, but it's still doing the same thing, plus now Incredimail won't work either - says it doesn't have the right version of flash or something.

I don't know if it showed in the specs report or if it's significant, but I'm using Firefox and not IE, though IE is still on the system. Also, since I'm here anyway, Incredimail will only open links in IE and not Firefox even thought FF is set as the default browser in Windows. I don't seem to be able to find where I can change that in the actual program. Dunno if you can help.

    Thanks again,
    Shan

hmm, weird, i just tried doing the flash player thing again, but from the link that Incredimail was opening and while it was in IE (before I was copying and pasting it to FF and then doing it from there) and now Incredimail is working. Haven't restarted yet to see if other thing is fixed or not.

Why would it matter which browser I used to download it?

Who knows the mysteries of Windows? Not even Bill I bet. :D

You might be getting closer to a fix.

Lol, you're probably right about that - I can just imagine him sitting there doing something and bam some weird thing happens and he's like - "What the hell??"

Anyway, just restarted and it's still saying that it can't find the file.

    Incredimail is still working however.

Any more help would be so appreciated.

Try changing your screensaver or "none".

Tried setting it no "none" and restarted, but still happening. Was wondering though, do screensavers kick in on the welcome screen before a profile is signed in, cause that's when the error is coming up. Would monitor trying to go to sleep do it?

Oh thanks, you're a champion. It's working now though as it turns out, it was just to run a stupid system screen saver on the welcome screen.

I have another problem, but I'm figuring I should start a new thread so as not to confuse the issue.

Anyhow, you help is much appreciated. thank-you again.

Oh, just wondering if you might know how I could get Incredimail to open links in FF instead of IE? FF is already set as my default browser in Windows, but I just don't seem to be able to find this setting in the program.

That, I do not know. Someone more experienced with Firefox or Incredimail will have to answer that one.

    Doubtful, but try the following:

Click START, then RUN, then type in: appwiz.cpl

Click "Set Program Access and Defaults"

Click the the small double arrow pointing down.

Now, click the radial button next to FF within "Choose a default web browser" , Click OK.

    Try opening links within Incredimail....

Ok, this is really weird. I tried what you said - it didn't sepecifically have FF in the list, just a choose my current browser option, which was already selected. I unchecked the "allow access to this program" box next to IE just incase that would help.

It didn't, the link I tried, still opens in IE. What I've just realised however is that some links do open in FF - for example, the ones from Major Geeks! So now I'm really confused.

    *shrug* crazy computers.

So is that about all I can try?
